That signing officially makes the National League West the best starting pitching division in baseball, IMO. The Dodgers have former Giants ace Jason Schmidt, who has always been dominant, the Padres have Greg Maddux, who has been solid throughout his career with the Braves and Cubs, Jake Peavy, who should rebound quite nicely from his injury-plagued season last year, and David Wells, who is a veteran pitcher that has put up decent numbers throughout his career, the Giants have Zito to repair the gaping hole left by Schmidt's departure and give them postseason experience, and the Diamondbacks have National League Cy Young Award winner Brandon Webb and could be on the verge of signing Randy Johnson again, which will help them get a large core of their fan base back and maybe allow him to have success again because he has done better in Arizona than he has at any other stop in his career.

Put all of that good pitching together with five mediocre lineups next season and you will see alot of low-scoring games and high strikeout totals.

Let the Giants have his overpaid ass. I think we offered him more than enough...oh well, at least you didn't pay for Ted Lilly

I don't think Zito is overpaid. He is a very solid and consistent pitcher who has won an American League Cy Young Award in the past, has struck out a lot of batters, gives a team an average of 15 wins every season, and has the postseason experience that the Giants need. If you ask me, I think he makes them an instant contender in a mediocre division.

gil meche(yes, GIL MECHE) is getting paid 11 mill a year. compare that to zito's 18 a year and it seems like a steal. the length of contract is a little suspect. but hey, he's been consistant as hell for 6 seasons straight.
