Thanks for all your comments, everyone. I'm going to make this brief because I have a busy day, plus I'm starting to feel under-the-weather. Here's a relatively new piece. Please let me know what you think, as always.
Resurrecting A Ghost
A casual mention
Of a ancient name
Instantly
He floods the room
Reviving memories
No longer suppressed by pain or time
Rosewood and musk
Permeate the surrounding air
Impressions of his fingers
Massage her shoulders
A breeze from an open window
Perfumed as his breath
Murmurs of once-uttered words
Caress her ears like lullabies
Brushing her cheek
A strand of her hair
Or was it another final kiss
As weightless, as real as the last one?
All too quickly
He vanishes
Leaving her pale, panic-stricken
As if she had seen a ghost
But her eyes never dared
To glance behind
Instead
His face materialized in her mind
Alive in flesh, blood, and bone
An audible plea
A hand reaching out
She pulled away
Returning to her tangible certainty
But plunging into feelings
That enveloped her yesterday
Falling deeper
Faster
Harder
Again
