The aftermath of Cyclone Nargis
The images I remember seeing on TV of Hurricane Katrina are coming back to mind... but this is a whole new category of suffering.
So many need help, but cannot receive help because the junta prevents aid workers from entering the country, and seizes the supplies meant for 95,000 starving people. This is a horrific disaster, watching so many people die on tv and the newscasters showing corpses littering the water. And entire countrysides smashed.
Myanmar is the same country where the rulers cracked down on the Bhuddist Monks last year. It remains to be seen if the junta will be able to hold onto the power that they keep trying to tighten its grip around. But for the good of the country, they need to loosen up their visa policies and start moving heaven and earth to save the people... unless their goal is to kill those afflicted anyways.
What is your take on the aftermath of Cyclone Nargis? Do you see any good coming of this, or is this the beginning of a very slow, torturous death of thousands. And do you predict the junta will stay in power because of this?
