alright here's the deal,
chord charts and books are ridiculous, you will spend a month trying to memorize the first ten chords on the sheet of hundreds, and if you have some crazy ability to memorise them you'll realise half way through that you are wasting your time because majority of these chords you're learning are the same but in different positions on the fret board, these cheeky buggers are bar chords.
the BEST thing to do is go to a few lessons. unless you personally know someone willing to teach you, the best thing is lessons, go straight on in there and be like "Fool, i wanna learn and i wanna learn now! skip the theory bull*&#@ and teach me the practical!" and then proceed to slap them.
i told my teacher from the begining the way i learn best, what i wanted to learn and what i want to be able to do in the end of it. that was a few years ago now and i still go, because no matter how good i get or if im in bands or not i still learn someting new each week and get better after each lesson.
good luck!
oh and your fingers will kill for the first few months. until you build up callouses and strength. but in the end its worth it!
