My parents absolutely HATE them! They think that its garbage, and that its GOTH and I shouldn't listen to that trash! They say "Garbage in, garbage out." But it's NOT GARBAGE!!! They think that since I listen to that genre of music, its affecting my to be (or at least want to be) Goth. And they won't let me dress how I want to (in all black) cause of how I think, the books I read, the things I watch, and the music I listen to, etc. They REALLY hate "Lithium", cause its a drug. But they don't even know the song's interpretation! And they think they're helping my "Gothic cause", when they're really making it worse! IT'S EATING ME ALIVE INSIDE!!!

To sum it all up, they hate Evanescence and every other band that I like (metal bands).
i'm really sorry to hear that, but your parents are probably just concerned about you because they probably don't understand what goth and Evanescence really represents. Perhaps you could change their minds though, for instance you could probably just pass some casual comments like how you would prefer to be happy and be yourself instead of being angry over how others can't accept your likings, because that's what Lithium is saying, embracing happiness instead of being fearful of it.

if you tossed around comments like that occasionally, they might see the more positive aspects of the band and stop seeing EV as "garbage".

Sorry if i'm not helping much, it's just that i do know a few kids whose parents feel the same way as yours, and i thought that i'd just put my feelings about it here.

Anyway for me, i'm getting on in years (ahem) so my parents probably assume that i'm mature enough to make my own musical choices as long as i don't suddenly start exhibiting behaviour that runs contrary to social norms ie: violence etc. They do object to me dressing in an overtly goth way, however.
