You guys suck. I got a "baptism by fire" when I joined. There was no welcoming committee.
Just kidding. I think you are doing a great job welcoming the new members. If there has been a problem it has been with new people not following your adivice or direction.

So even if the search function reveals the 456 page post that was made a year ago, you're left with the choice of being a post necromancer, making a new thread and risking getting flamed/locked/banned, or opting out of the discussion entirely. The last option kinda defeats the purpose of a fan forum though, doesn't it?

You have a point, but you also have to consider the members who have been here for a while. It is much easier for a new person to just do some research by browsing the old threads than it is to rehash the whole conversation/question/debate over again. 99.962743 % of the questions that could be asked have already been asked, and 111.329641 % of the possible answers have already been given. It just takes a little bit of reading, but I do understand how it might seem intimidating to a new person. Then again, you wouldn't walk into a business meeting on your first day on the job and start asking a bunch of questions that you were given the answers to before you applied.
