Bjorkdoll is on a distinguished road
Amy Tan (everything by her..even her memoir!)..Dean Koontz (most stuff)..Anchee Minn ("Empress Orchid," especially, but also "Wild Ginger"...I haven't read "Red Azalea" or "Becoming Madame Mao" yet). I also love stuff by Flannery O'Connor and Edgar Allen Poe although, admittedly, I don't really read their stuff that much lately. Oh and I also read some really good books from some Tales of the Otori series by Liam Hearn (I THINK that's his name) about feudal Japan (well, they are really in a fictitious setting that just CLOSELY resembles feudal Japan haha). I haven't read for pleasure in QUITE some time b/c I'm in graduate school and always busy reading my (in general) 1,000+ pages of homework per week (that's just the reading part of the homework..not the research for and writing of papers and everything else..blah)..ahem..but I'm on vacation now for 2 more weeks so I want to buy some new books to read for pleasure. I just finished reading Jung Chang's memoir/historical account of China around the time of the Cultural Revolution called "Wild Swans" which was reaaaally good and fascinating and sad.
