I'm afraid I don't know - so sorry if I got your hopes up! - I would like to know the story behind this song too. Though not my favourite Ev song, I think it is quite possibly the saddest song ever. In a good way! I have a lot of memories attached to it, too...in particular, one really shitty day, during music class, I locked myself away in a practice room and played the song over and over again, until I started crying. Which didn't take very long because, like I said, it's the saddest song ever!

I think it might be an expression of the lonliness Amy described as a child, when her family was moving around a lot.
