Morning

tip-toeing back from the
edge of the earth,
I slipped on eternity
when it caught my eye –
I think they were yours,
the eyes that blinded me,
refracted my light and threw it back so
I shattered.

clumsy of me, I know,
but I was always the girl tripping
over yesterday, while you were caught
up in tomorrow.

you’d only write in
calligraphy and blood,
but I’d sign my name in
fingerprints on the bathroom mirror.

and the mist is fading now;
avoiding your gaze has
become our game,
but it’s hardly fair when you
won’t stop looking.

the room is spinning, still
you’re with me,
amazing, yes? but no,
because I’m not sure which way
is ‘out’ anymore.
