Across The Universe (MOVIE)

I've seen it yesterday.... finally!

This movie is like a big music video but it's good.. anyway. They did a great job with the beatles' songs.

I must say I'm not a fan of the beatles at all, as I think they're hugely overrated. and i haven't seen this movie. but we played the soundtrack at work and I bought it because it's fun.

Any takes on that?

TELL ME MORE MAN!! I want to know more about your movie taste please. I love cinema. And for Across The Universe...

Far from limiting itself to the simple use of the songs from the Beatles, the scenario of this ambitious musical draws its inspiration in the texts of the aforesaid songs, like in the tumultuous time of their creation. Thus, the film accurately evokes the protestor spirit of this agitated decade, with with the key a speech antimilitarist sometimes not very subtle, minor defect of a film which falls under the continuity of HAIR. The intrigue, rather which unstitched, is nevertheless relevant and of a great freshness. Moreover, the musical numbers are spectacular and arrangements of the songs, particularly sumptuous. Those are interpreted with conviction by young actors little known but extremely tempting, whose contagious energy irradiates.

Not really a fan of the film .. didn't think it was anything spectacular (well, besides the music). The soundtrack was a great buy, though.

I am bumping this thread because this movie is currently one of my favourites and i shall be buying it in the near future. this movie was seriously under-rated and deserved a lot more acknowledgement then it did receive. the whole movie is not a drug trip- just once or twice when they refer back with use of music to the beatles pyschedealic phase. the music was amazing, they picked actors who could do the songs justice and in some cases make the songs more favourable to me then the beatles version. and i like the beatles.
i loved the references back to issues of the time, the war, martin luther king jr etc. it is a movie i could see again and again hence me planning on buying it.
jim sturgess (my current av) is eye candy in an unconvential way there is something about him it could be the accent, it could be that he can sing and sing well and sing with an accent. he makes a good Jude and a good leading actor.

Quote:
A dock worker Jude travels to America in the 1960s to find his estranged father. There he falls in love with sheltered American teenager Lucy. When her brother Max is drafted to fight in the Vietnam War, they become involved in peace activism. The film title and main characters are named after various songs by the Beatles.

An original musical film, Across The Universe is a fictional love story set in the 1960s amid the turbulent years of anti-war protest, the struggle for free speech and civil rights, mind exploration and rock and roll. At once gritty, whimsical and highly theatrical, the story moves from high schools and universities in Massachusetts, Princeton and Ohio to the Lower East Side of Manhattan, the Detroit riots, Vietnam and the dockyards of Liverpool. A combination of live action and animation, the film is paired with many songs by The Beatles that defined the time
im am going to end with saying "All you need is love"
