An Affirmative Action President

Basically, In the next four years we are going to have presidential candidates coming from more diverse backgrounds. Rumors of Hellary Clinton and Condi Rice running are everywhere. As a female, I’m all for a female president. I would never vote for a person like Hellary Clinton because I think she is a horrible person. However, I had an argument with a male friend who said he would vote for her just because she is female, because he wanted the “glass ceiling” to be broken so to speak.
Where do you draw the line on compromising your political agreement for social advancement?

There has been a lull in this debate forum after the presidential race. Lets try to get this place hopping mad. More topics people!

This is a little iffy I think, but that seems to be the main question so keep it there and see how it goes for now... but we don't want a repeat of the election thread. That was locked for a reason, and the Election 2008 thread is for your thoughts on Hillary's upcoming potential.

This is easy... Deep down, America isn't ready for a woman President. It looks good on paper but the end result isn't near. As many as those that want her elected, there are twice that many who don't.

I have to disagree, I think that if the right female was nominated it would happen. Its just the choices arent always right in front of our faces. I just think that people dont want to give up their political ties just yet, and its just the odds that the person that you most identify with is going to be a male.

I think any female competent to be the President of the United States would be morally repulsed by the idea that she could be elected due to affirmative action. Real women of character are to be judged on their own worth, independent of their gender. No qualified female candidate would accept the nomination as her party's candidate if she believed that she was only nominated because of her gender. It's an insult to women everywhere.

That said, I don't think America is quite ready for the idea of a female President.

Personally, I wouldn't care about gender (unless both candidates were assholes, in that case I'd probably just pick the woman). I think it all depends on who runs if we are ready. I hate how divided people are about gender, it sucks. No, in many aspects women and men are not equal, but as citizens we are. I think it would make a great change for the US if we had a woman president...or even a black/asian/indian president.
