Wink

I agree with you jadeakira. We should stop whinging and whining about the negative stuff and start being grateful for all the postives this country has to offer. Like u said, "it could be a lot worse". If the recent Asian disaster hasn't already opened your eyes to how good we have it over here, then u need to make an appointment with an optometrist. By the way -- EVANESCENCE ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With all due respect, I'm tired of hearing "well it could be worse." as an excuse to do nothing about issues. Fine, let's do nothing if we have a problem, because it could be worse right? Our hospitals are indeed superior to a lot of places, but they're coming apart at the seams and we'll end up in a situation with far greater waiting lists, compromised patient care and an inability (actually, even a minor terrorist incident would overwhelm our hospitals completely) to manage with emergency circumstances if we don't focus our efforts on fixing them.

Exactly Livo so true. if we just shrug and say oh well it could be worse then we will end up like those countries where it is worse. We have to work for what we and we can't just sit back and let the system get drained away.
we can't just sit on our hands and say oh well. Were will that get you. If you have a leaking tolit or something that wont stop running will you say, oh well could be worse, i will just leave it? Oh ok i will shut up before some one kicks me and before i start a fight. But we do have to look at why these country's have it bad, and why we have it good. its the governments that countol the country and economy and they may let us think we control them but really we don't.

And what should we do about it? Vote John Howard back into power again for another 3 years? Oh wait, we already did that. I tried to make a difference at the recent Federal election, but it didn't really work in the end did it?

I agree that our Hospitals are going to hell, but at the end of the day, short of going out there and helping to campaign against these issues there isn't a lot I can do about it. I could campaign but as far as I'm concerned that does one thing... make me feel better about these issues because I tried to do something about it. It won't change whatever plans this government or sucessive governments have in store for the future of this country, all I can do it try to make the best decision based on my beliefs when an election roles around.

I'm not suggesting that there isn't room for improvement in this country. Yes, there are many issues that need addressing and so many services that could use improvement ie. The whole hospital thing, but I just think, that compared to other countries around the globe, we're not doing too badly. And I for one, am thankful for that.

tell me that when you wait around for weeks and weeks for hospital bed when you desperatly need one.
when you go without power for several hours when they manually shutoff you section during 'peak times' so the grid doesn't get overloaded
when you can only use water during certain times of the day, and the amount is restricted depending upon the numbers of people in the household

its not quite that bad yet, but at this rate i'm sure it will be soon. they are already planning some things such as the power 'greyouts', and people are waiting for months to see a doctor/surgeon.

Yeah this contry isn't perfict, but what is perfict?
But you still have to look at the reasons why these poor countries are doing so bad. Like years ago my mum was going to sponser a child and they sent a photo of the kid and he had some sort of rifle so my dad said no they weren't going to sponser because if he could afford a rifle he can afford to feed himself.
yeah just because those countries have it bad why should we make our country the same. feeling sorry for them doesn't help them. Making us suffer more and degrade ourselves doesn't give them more. We should concentrate on making our life and our country beautiful like it has been many of years and not let it go down the drain like other countrys have. Yes this is a lucky country and we should keep it that way.

It's too bad you didn't end up sponsoring that child. How does your dad know that the rifle actually belonged to the kid? Maybe it didn't, and because of this misunderstanding, this child missed out on your help. I agree with you, pity doesn't change things for the less-fortunate countries, but sometimes sympathy does - just look at Australia's generosity with the tsunami relief. Surely, this is going to make a difference to millions of people's lives. Yes, we do live in the "lucky country", but we should also acknowledge those less lucky than us.

So, what do you suggest the government does? Sorry, but you can complain and complain, but what good does it do if you don't have any ideas on how to address these issues??

Well they shouldn't have kids holding a rifle, it isn't natural. And why would you give a child a rifle? it is just stupid. Then the people who gave the kid the rifle can help him since they have money to throw around.

Yes we should acknowledge them but making our lived like them isn't going to help them. that is what i am saying, we should be greatful for what we have by keeping it, not destroying it because others don't have it as good as us. We should look after what we have and improve where we can for future gennerations.
