Blue Screen of Death

Operating system version. Windows Vista

Hardware you are running it on. HP Pavilion

Version of the software that you are having trouble with. Blue Screen of Death

What, specifically, is wrong? The problem started early fall last year. I downloaded Windows Live messenger onto my computer. The first few tries with Windows Live everything worked out fine. But after going on it about the fifth time the BSOD popped up. I did everything it said to do, uninstalled Windows Live and anything that I installed before the BSOD. Things ran smoothly until I went into my college's e-mail. We use Windows Live and that's when the BSOD popped up again. I managed going without checking my e-mail on my desktop since I have a laptop and another computer that works.

But just today I got the BSOD again from just checking out my Xbox live account. Again this site uses Windows Live and the BSOD seems to only pop up when I go onto any Microsoft sites that involve Windows Live. My concern is that I did everything it said to do yet I still get the BSOD. I really would like some help in stopping this since I find it annoying, and fear that my computer is suffering damage from the sudden shut down that is happening.

Are there any error messages? Windows BSOD error message. There are no codes to this one, just telling me that if it is my first time to allow it to restart. If it has happened again I should go into system recovery or contact the company.

I've never had nor heard of this problem, but a quick web search brought up this possible solution:

Do the following

start -> run -> services.msc

then go to Messenger Sharing Folders USN Journal Reader service

click on properties and disable it
It seems to have worked for a lot of people, so I think it's worth a shot if you haven't tried yet. Though it may only work for XP, I am not sure.

If that doesn't work, try to make sure you have the latest updates for everything.
