definition of a riddle...
Quote:
a pair of identical twins were drinking from poisoned drinks. both drinks contained the same deadly poison. one twin drank his drink slow and the other took his time. yet only one twin died from the poison and the other did not. does that qualify? the answer is in this riddle plain as day but yet no one has attempted to answer it. 'twas in heaven pronounced, and 'twas muttered in hell, an echo caught faintly the sound as it fell; on the confines of earth 'twas permitted to rest, and the depths of the ocean its presence confessed; 'twill be found in the sphere when 'tis riven asunder, be seen in the lightning and heard in the thunder. 'twas allotted to man with his earliest breath, attends him at birth, and awaits him in death, presides o'er his happiness, honor, and health, is the prop of his house, and the end of his wealth. in the heaps of the miser 'tis hoarded with care, but is sure to be lost on the prodigal heir. it begins every hope, every wish it must bound, with the husbandman toils, and with monarchs is crowned. without it the soldier, the seamen may roam, but woe to the wretch who expels it from home! in the whispers of conscience its voice will be found, nor e'en in the whirlwind of passion be drowned. 'twill not soften the heart; but though deaf be the ear, it will make it acutely and instantly hear. yet in shade let it rest, like a delicate flower, ah... breathe on it softly, - it dies in an hour. or should i start giving hints when i post these brainteasers? |

no one seems to be going for my cryptogram puzzle, so lets try something a little easier. DR'OR YQSSGYRK EG EOW HPK AR ORHM. HPK B URRM HMGPR, HPK DR'OR PGE EGZRELRO. HPK ELHE BY ORHM. i know the shorter ones are usually harder because theres not as much to work with. but you have apostrophes, common words, 2 letter words, a double letter word, and a one-letter word. not to mention this should be a very familiar quote to you guys. for those of you whove never worked these before, here's a tutorail on how to solve them. in black only because it gives away one of the words. doesnt spoil the whole thing though, so feel free to read if youre having trouble. [first, what youre looking at is a phrase where each letter has been replaced by another letter. your job is to decode it. all the things i just listed are good places to start. for example, the one letter word B can only be ‘a’, or ‘i’. for the double letter word YQSSGYRK, make a list of all the letters that could fit for S, such as e, c, f, l, m, n, p, and t. (s isnt a possibility since thats what youre translating from). check them off as you work other parts of the puzzle. look at the apostrophes. 2 letters come after that. so its not going to be like ‘wouldn’t ’ or ‘isn’t’ or ‘there’s’ where theres only 1 letter at the end. so what abbreviations would yield 2 letters at the end? cant be ‘will’ because then the 2 letters will the same (’ll). i think the only options are the abbreviations for ‘are’ (’re) and ‘have’ (’ve). in either case, you now know that R = ‘e’. this means you have two 2 letter words that end in ‘e’, DR and AR. List off all the 2 letter words the end in ‘e’- ‘we’, ‘be’, ‘me’, ‘he’. not too many of them. start making some cross references. you have a 3 letter word, EOW. if the abbreviation ends in ‘ve’, making O = ‘v’, that means your 3 letter word would have to have a V in the middle of it. not too likely, so its pretty safe to assume DR’OR ends in ‘re’. remember that list of 2 letter words ending in ‘e’? ‘we’ is the only one that would fit with this abbreviation, making DR’OR= ‘we’re’. you now have at least 3 letters translated throughout the puzzle, making it easier to find other connections. make a list of letters, listing vowels separate from constants, and cross them off as you use them. when the list of vowels gets shorter, itll be easier to make some assumptions to mess with in hopes that something clicks. a e i o u y b c d f g h j k l m n p q r s t v w x z] |

Divide 30 by half and add 10 is still not solved correctly. Here's some more.
[You could look at it as "half and add 10" as in 10.5. The answer is 2.857..., or 2.9. That's another possible way of looking at it. Another way would be 'what exactly is half?' So maybe you could divide 30 by half of 30, which would be 15, which is 2. Then add 10, which would equal 12. So far, I've come up with the following answers: 30/0.5 + 10 = 70 30/15 + 10 = 12 30/ (0.5 + 10) = 2.857 30/ (15 + 10) = 1.2 Koumori, are any of those correct? Am I even on the right track, here?] |
