Brand New Son Of A Beast

oaky so i got a new computer afew weeks ago, BRAND NEW. xp..blahblah.
no viruses, NOTHING.

Magically it started to slow down, i figured its just b/c of all the songs i have on there.
yesterday, it wouldn't let me click my aim window [i also switched from trillian toaim b/c trillian was a cock mongrel.] so i exited out and it wouldn't open at all, so i restarted.
it went to the regular xp screen where you click your name, i clicked my name and i was logged on, so i tried to play a song, and it restarted itself and went to a black screen that says something about a corrupt system file or missing file, and told me to insert my original xp disc, [btw the file was like windows32/system something...]so we did and pressed r/repair like we're supposed to . and it restarted it AND KEEPS GOING BACK TO THE SAME DAMN THING. help plz.

"black screen that says something about a corrupt system file or missing file"

Try reinstalling xp, either that or you've been hacked. Try scanning your music files, might contain something.

Urgh.. not familiar with XP, dislike it greatly.

Start > Run > SFC

Dunno if that works on XP, see if that comes up with any damaged files and repair it through there.

Don't know if this can help you, but go to Start > Help and Maintainance > Undo the changes done with "restaurate" System (dunno if that word exists). Then to create a point ... and you can there go back with dates to the last time your computer worked okay.

I had some problems like that, the file that was creating a conflict was the AIM, I had all the problems, like.. only one speaker would work, system crashes, so on. I had to reinstall Windows and don't d/l AIM anymore. (the tech guy told me that AIM makes that kind of problems with Windows XP).

I found this information on line...

Quote:
When you try to start or restart your Windows XP-based computer, you may receive one of the following error messages:

Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SOFTWARE

The procedure that this article describes uses Recovery Console and System Restore. This article also lists all the required steps in specific order to make sure that the process is fully completed. When you finish this procedure, the system returns to a state very close to the state before the problem occurred.
You can read the rest of the information here

It's also called a restore point.

Actually Trillian had caused a problem for me. It didn't give me the error message, but it made me computer extremely slow. Before I download any new software, I always create a restore point. That way if it doesn't work right, I can roll back to the time before I had installed it. You can do this by going to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore and select “Create Restore Point” and hit “Next”. Name the restore point and hit “Create”.

XP also saves restore points on it own, so if you get your computer running at all, you might want to restore it to the last restore point your computer saved. open up System Restore again, select “Restore my system to an earlier time” and hit “Next”. Go to the date on the calendar that you created the restore point. Make sure you close any programs you have open. Proceed to follow through with all the “Next” buttons that appear.

It's the best MS OS out there, you can't deny it.

Maybe, I'm too fond of 98 though. Never let me down, never erased my work and never had a major crash with it. I can't say the same about XP though...

And XP does?

I don't know what wacked out pirated copy you may have tried, but XP is solid as a rock. I run 20 programs at once and not a single hitch.

Never got a BSOD with XP either.

Can't say 98 is all that solid
98 gives BSOD if it does not like the drivers you put on it. Talk about flakey.
