Bug bite?
Hi everyone,
I have a question about a bug bite I recieved a few days ago. At first it was a welt, like a mosquito bite, only less itchy but very painful. I never saw what bit me, but I assumed it would go away. Unfortunately, I've had a fever for two days now and the welt has flattened into a red ring with a white center. The center looks like it might have some sort of fluid in it, and its very itchy. I've also been sick to my stomach and dizzy. I assumed I was just getting a cold, but I don't usually get fevers with colds, and I don't have a sore throat (which I always get when I'm sick) I thought maybe the fever and the bite might be connected, as I only got sick a day after I got the bite, and no amount of advil will make my fever or headache go away. I really loathe the health services at my university, as there is no way to get anyone to see me without sitting in the ER for an hour. They are all full of appointments for the next few days. Is there something I can take, or should take, to feel a little better before I head in tomorrow? I wouldn't normally head into the doctor's at all, but my friend, who is an EMT, took a look at it and said it was either a tick bite or a spider bite. *shudder* So does anyone have any experience with bug bites? Is there something I can take for the fever? I'm sweating and my head is pounding, its really rather uncomfortable.

My guess is that it's a spider bite. probably a brown recluse or something of that nature. you need to get to the dr asap. honestly, the fever is probably connected as is the nausia.
warning graphic spider bite pics. Last edited by Wildangel : 04-26-2008 at 11:31 PM. |

Seeing what Karen just showed in that link, I would be seeing
a doctor soon as possible. I just wouldn't take any risks, so if I were you I would see what type of bite that is, and getting it treated. Just omg, those pics were just discusting. * Shudders * I really hope Everything turns out for you, and I wish you the very best! ![]()

Sounds like a spider bite to me, possibly a white tail, possibly a red back. I'd see a doctor asap - don't matter how long you have to wait, as long as you see one.

My advice? Get to a doctor right away. I would've already been in there the hour the fever struck because I wouldn't believe it's a coincidence. I know waiting in the ER can be torture, especially if it's what they'd call "minor" (They usually let the people that are throwing up, bleeding large amounts of blood, are having a heart attack, etc go first) but it's for you own self so it's still important. Usually for spider bites what they'll give you is something to treat the pain and stuff and you'll get tons of nice antibiotics to take. I just hope you'll be alright, and if it was a potentially potent (that sounds weird..) species of spider, you'd probably be dead by now. (Just trying to make it better ^_^; not helping, huh?)

Thanks guys! I'm going to the university ER as soon as possible. I don't think I got the bite at school, because the office I work at has lots of spiders and nasty bugs.
People wonder why I kill them upon sight. Oh, and Karen, those pictures were disgusting. I really hope its not a recluse bite. I think I may have thrown up a wee bit in my mouth after seeing those.

I've been bit a couple times by black widows. The bite sounds similar to what you described. I got really sick, muscles aches, chills vomiting. I did not realize that was what had bitten me. I just thought I was really sick with the flu. So I never got medical care. It wasn't until I killed a black widow in the bathroom that I put two and two together. By that point, I was pretty much better.
A brown recluse bite is super serious. There is a clay that comes from Wyoming that is suppose to be one of the only substances on this earth that can counteract the venom. It is called Indian Clay or Wyoming Bentonite clay. I keep a jar on hand at all times just in case one of my kids gets bitten by a widow again, or for any bad bites. It speeds the healing like crazy! Great for zits, too, lol.

^^ Eeep at black widows. I should look into this clay, it sure sounds good right about now.
I was diagnosed with a spider bite. The doctor couldn't tell me what kind of spider it was, as I didn't have the bugger with me (pun intended! ) but it is definitely spider. They gave me antibiotics because they side the bite was infected. My skin is getting icky around the bite, so its probably good that I went when I did. Thanks for the help everyone. *hugs*
