I actually that this song is very far from mainstream. Typically a song follows a very specific format, bridge chorus short instrumental riff, usually all with a similar amount of lines, etc. While CMWYS does have some of that, it definitely breaks away from it in several ways. Not even Fallen did that. There's no long instrumental rant, for example. That really impressed me. My complaint with Fallen was that it was more poppy because it followed that format while all those bands we compare them to, eg Nightwish, weren't so focused on that. That was why a lot of people I talked to thought it was found in the pop section rather than the metal section. You may not agree with me, but I find it much stronger as a written piece.

when i think about it, what WAS IT that windup changed about CMWYS? Isn't anyone else curious about that?

You're voicing an opinion, and so are the rest of us, regardless of who said what about the album, who wrote it, why they wrote it, what we think of it etc.
If you think that's ripping you apart, I'd hate to see how you'd feel if someone really *was* ripping you apart.
I think you're just trying to push me over the edge but eh whatever. You were the one who got on me for voicing an opinion. I didn't get on anybody in particular, I just thought it was kinda sad to see that so many people were disappointed and then I wondered what did they expect when she made it clear it was going to be different? Also there's already people worried who have listened to it yet that it's going to sound like crap when they first listen to it for the first time. Ah whatever, I have been ripped apart as I belong to other boards than just this one. I've been a member here for over 2 years and I've lurked and kept up with stuff all the time, all of Amy's posts etc...but yeah, if I pissed you off because I voiced my opinion and made you turn on me, oops sorry *shrug*

Not really, I just find it kind of insane the amount of inability for people around here to realize that not everyone is going to like everything that Ev puts out, regardless of what they were told to expect, people are going to expect and/or hope for whatever it is they want to. It is sad to see so many dissapointed, but that's life - not everyone's going to be happy with it, no matter how many times Amy comes on here and tells us whatever about the songs or album. There's a completel lack of acceptance to different opinions and I'm glad people are finally starting to come out and express those opinions as opposed to being strung along by what everyone else said - that's all.

Hmmm. Well, here's what I have to say after reading the posts. I got angry when I saw how some people were expressing their opinions. It wasn't mature it all, so I thank the mods for those "public service announcements" .

Okay, if you were seriously expecting Fallen all over again, keep in mind that most of those songs were written when they were teens. They are not teens anymore! Of course it'll be different. There's a huge difference between being 16 and 24, so calm down.

I think most of you should just kinda, ya know, expect something different, but don't dream about what you think the album will sound like. Like someone said before this, if you do that, you're going to be dissapointed. What you think is perfect may be horrible to another person. I think we all should just sit back, enjoy or not enjoy the single, and just kinda take things as they come [the video, album, and any other stuff that comes this way].

And if you're going to express your opinion, please, to save us children who can't control our tempers [heh], say it in a mature way. Don't totally bash it. It'll make yourself look better, anyway.

Ann

Some of you say you don't like the intro - I think it's brilliant. Rather than reminding me of Kelly Clarkson or Christina, as it does some of you (which I don't understand), it reminds me of Queen and the way they layered their vocals.

Again I have to stress how good Amy's voice sounds on this song. There's a certain personality there that I haven't heard on the band's previous work. Their artistic growth since Fallen is obvious.

But the whole thing about it not "hooking" the audience..Amy has made it clear that she writes music for herself, and not to please others. Sure, that's part of her job now, but as an artist, you can't guarantee everybody's going to love it. I agree that it's important for the first single to be something that really touches a lot of people and it's a shame that it doesn't for a lot of you. Honestly, my type of song is more like the Lacrymosa style. But I will just keep an open mind when hearing this song, and not expect to hear the same thing I've heard from Ev before.

Yeah. No you shouldn't be expecting crap.
I based my post and my aprehension on the vast majority of people who said they liked it after listening to it 10+ times.

Would you request to hear a song after you weren't sure if you liked it the first time?

And damn, I really thought Amy did write her music for me....*shrugs* /sarcasm

That was the first thing that jumped out to me when I first listened to the song. I was like WOAH, AMY, YOU'VE DONE YOUR HOMEWORK! Lol!
Her vocals are definitely amazing on this... I loved them before, but she's on a whole new level now. I can't wait to hear what it'll all be like live in October. *Fidgets in seat thinking about how far away that is*

It sounds like Christina Aguilera at parts... so true.. ><

I like the song, but IMO it's no hit... well, not for me :P probably is for everyone else! And I do think it's "comercial, poppyish" (if that makes sence?), but hey, I still like it. Just didn't expect her to sound like Christina Aguilera =(
