Agatha is on a distinguished road
I heard the song and at first i wasn't like overblowned by it but now i can't get enough. I think that the lyrics are to express something. Amy usually writes things a litlle more complex but in this case i think it's to have her point made. I think the repetitive use of "me" is to show how a person with addiction only thinks about herself and misses all the others around them. And about the different sounds in the song i also believe it is to express something. IMO the begginin of the song with the piano intro is to express her sadness about having to leave that person that she loves. Then the heavy parts with the guitar and bass i think it's to express her anger, because that person is not only hurting herself but also everyone else so she is mad at him because he is being selfish. Then the chorus is about the sadness of having to leave that person and a messege for him. It's like "if you want me back in your life you have got to get yourself cleaned up and i still love you but i can't stand this anymore" then we have "you never call me when you're sober..." in a more soulful sound and i think it's to let that person with a hint about why she is gone and then the part everyone loves "how could i, i've burned paradise, how could i, you were never mine" i think she is mad at herself for still being in love with that person but at the same time realising that that person love's drugs/alchool more than her and that she means almost nothing ti him(in this case). Everything has a porpuse and this my interpretation of this song. It's pretty dificult to show our emotions in a song especialy because some time has passed since we felt like that so i think if their goal was to express different feelings with only one song they did one hell of a job.

i think it's great the some people don't like the first single..i mean come on it's just the first single. there's bound to be better music on the album than CMWYS. yeah it may be repetitive but hey it's new Ev music, be happy a least there's something new out. at first i was a little hesitant about it, but i'm over it. yes the lyrics are blunt and straight forward...it's a different kind of single...it'll get some time to get use to. chin up people

I love the song as a song, but I think the problem is (for me anyway, maybe for some other people too) that it just doesn't strike the emotional chord that some other songs did. IMO, the musical arrangement is better than Fallen, but this song just lacks a bit of the emotional connection with me.

I think you hit the nail on the head. A lot of us (not all, of course) are still teens and relate better with the old music. Amy grew up in some ways that some of us haven't. The soul isn't one and the same between artist and fan, in a sense. But I haven't dated anyone with an addiction problem, either, so maybe the song would make more sense to people who have.

Gah, I used to know what I think far more clearly, but after reading all these posts, I'm just confused. I think a nice nap will clear that up, though.

Another thing...I think we're used to hearing a more tragic emotion in Ev music, this time we are hearing anger. That alone makes quite a difference.

I think what's losing some people is the tempo turn around just before the bridge, but I think I dig it. Cause up to there, when the guitars and everything come in, its just awesome. But it gets almost folky during the quieter parts at the beginning, bridge, and the end, giving a much different aftertaste to the song than one would expect earlier on.

When I'm listening to what is most of the song, the heavier parts, are just awesome. Her angry lyrics and dramatic pauses and the hard rock, I can't even reach for a complaint on those parts. I think its the lighter note at the end and that very different aftertaste, thats what is giving these strange early impressions of the song. I love all those cool piano parts, but it is definetely a break away from expectation.

The style of singing is different all around too, and unlike Fallen, there is a more upbeat vibe at parts and a happy ending. This particular song might not seem overall dark or goth, but listen to the second third of the song by itself, and it really is. It's just the transition into the softer sound near the end that makes people think that it is not. Parts kind of remind me of 'Anything for You' because of the lighter feel and more direct lyrics.

Plus, we've had expectations for so long, we've almost forgotten about the amount of artistic growth Amy's been through since Fallen.

Personally, I'm thankful that this song surprised me. I remember when people kept saying the new album should have a bunch of remakes of older demos, and I was thinking that I'd love even more to hear something new and different. And I'll tell ya, I will welcome more songs like CMWYS, because it is sure as hell new and different.

I think the age difference and the emotional difference are both very good points.. it makes a big difference.

We've never really had anger expressed in an Evanescence song before. Im enjoying CMWYS the more I listen to it.. I like how different it is to Fallen

I do also agree it's good that people don't like CMWYS... as mentioned, there will be other tracks on the album. I mean, I don't like Whisper very much on Fallen, but I still love the band.
