The Real OC

I have the video of the Rock Am Ring show and the Cologne show. I've also got quite a bit of others, but I noticed that the song order the band played is the same in both...as usual. I know most bands play the same ticket at all their shows...I'm just wondering how the band managed to choose the order in which they played the songs. I noticed "My Immortal" and "Breathe No More" were pretty much in the middle of the show, and with Amy seated playing the piano...almost seemed like time to rest during the show. Is there any particular way you choose the order, or does the band just set the songs at random before the tour?

Well, I have the Live at Hard Rock show, Live at Pink Pop and some of Pepsi Smash...and they all seem to be pretty much the same. I haven't been able to afford to go to one of their shows when they've come through town, so I wouldn't be able to compare what I watch here to what I would have seen...but I think the order is pretty concrete. Most bands play the same order because it becomes like repition and after a certain point they just know what they're gonna play and when. Just for reference here's the order of the two concerts I originally mentioned:
1) Haunted
2) Going Under
3) Taking Over Me
4) Everybody's Fool
5) My Last Breath
6) Farther Away
7) Zero
8) Breathe No More
9) My Immortal
10) Bring Me to Life
11) Tourniquet
12) Imaginary

That's also the setlist from the show in Oklahoma City on Aug. 11, except that we had Thoughtless instead of Zero. As an encore we got Zero and... um... Whisper! Yeah, that was it, Whisper .

I think it depends on the concert setting...cuz they didn't do "Breathe No More" or "My Immortal" at Rock Am Ring. They did "Even in Death" and "Whisper" instead. Rock Am Ring was a huge open area, while cologne was confined to a small auditorium type room...so it seemed more personal and easier to pull out a keyboard and let her play "BNM" and "MI". I could be wrong...just hoping to hear what they have to say bout it.

rock am ring 2003 was before they added mi to the setlist. (as far as i know) and it wasn't during a tour, it was their first german show and their first one in front of such a big crowd. when they did their german tour they played it like cologne, but when ben left they didn't play zero anymore.
rock am ring 2003 was like rock in rio. they added thoughtless and there was no more even in death.
i think this little "break" in the middle when they play bnm and mi really is for amy to rest a little. look how she's rocking all that time, maybe she need to catch her breath.
another reason why they have this order could just be how the songs fit together. or what guitars the guys need for the songs. they change them sometimes..
i don't really know it, but that's what seems to be logical to me....

Actually, picking the order takes alot of thought. The key of the songs is a big part of it, because different songs have different guitar tunings, and if you play a few in a row in the same key, you don't have to stop to change guitars. Also, the piano songs are side by side because otherwise we'd have to pause the show to set up the piano more than once. And yeah, the middle of the set is the best place to sit down and catch my breath. Its a sauna in those lights! Often a sauna in a leather corset... Also you just want to set up a setlist with the best impact, drawing you in at the beginning and keeping your interest until the end. make sense?

i can not recall what the song order was at the office depot center in sunrise FL but i do remember that it was set up real well. the transition from song to song was perfect IMO. everything was smooth. that was the best and i mean the best live show i have ever been to.
