Eternity

We are born, each of us,
With a very set time to live;
Yet in that lifetime lies a thousand eternities
Trapped within that tiny space.

A baby is placed in a crib,
By its mother, who for just a moment needs both hands;
He cries until she returns and wipes away his tears –
An eternity has passed.

A child is dropped off,
Today is the first day of school;
The safety of home and family is replaced by a sterile building full of strangers
That first day seems an eternity!

The boy, now older,
Stands before the class;
Today he gives an oral report on some book he didn’t want to read
It takes an eternity.

The teenage boy
Walks across the stage;
He is finally at the end of one journey and beginning another
It took an eternity.

The man waits
He has asked her a simple question;
He is on one knee in the restaurant holding his breath
She takes an eternity to answer.

She screams
He watches, holding her hand;
The doctors and nurses clamor about as the baby comes
It feels like eternity passes.

The man sits,
His hair is white;
He doesn’t regret the decision to retire, but he doesn’t know what to do now.
He’s been working for all eternity.

The man lies on the bed
The sound of his own shallow breath scares him;
He’s not sure he’s ready for his story to end, yet time has stubbornly marched on.
He would give anything for just one more of those eternal moments that he impatiently wished away.

The time you get in this life,
Is all you’ll ever truly possess;
You can use it any way you choose, live life to its fullest or impatiently squander it
Either way, eternity waits patiently for you.

I posted this in my thread a few years ago when I was more active here. Most of the time, I like to put up something fresh when I participate, but I really don't think that I could write something new about passion that I would like as much as this one...

It's been modified a bit over the years, but it's still about the same.

so i had a quite day and for some reason an overly active mind
i thought i would put it to use and have since worn it out struggling to write about passion- i said i would have trouble and well i did, i struggled


Passionless
The fury around my existence
Gone
The obsession with my daydream
Consumed
An all destructive fire
Extinguished

What is passion, when the need is lost?
What is passion, when none remains?

If I close my eyes will you stay still?
The room has stopped spinning
I wonder if I ever lost my touch with gravity
The severity of the quite before the storm
Thoughtful but dignified
Lost in lust

When the ground is lost from beneath my feet
When time stands still for all but you

My existence will feel fury
Nails dug in your back
My obsession is consuming
Short and shallow breathing
My fire leaves us scalded
passion takes us under

Where is the realisation that my world is spinning?
Where is the knowledge that for once I’m addicted?

Passion feeds my desire for you
Lost in deliberation
Of making my move
Leaving me vulnerable
Claim you whole

All senses have been infiltrated,
and I cannot fathom,
I can't believe
how I can hardly breathe
in this life full of air
full of tears
full of dreams.

When hot wetness
has scorched my vision,
and leaves trails
burning farther deep
beneath my skin...

I am torn between
holding fast or being pulled away
by a beautiful,
merciless passion.

It is anything
beyond my understanding
that makes me feel so much
and cripples my lungs
with a gorgeous stream of sunlight,
lighting me up
and choking me out
with such a painful beauty

of which in wonderful moments,
I have become lost
and forgotten all reality.

Too much feeling to flow along,
such fervent beating
of a heart within,
and feverish longing
as I try to breathe

in this life full of air

full of dreams.
