You must be 13 years of age or older to register and post on evboard. If you somehow do register while being 12 years of age or younger and it is discovered, you will be banned until you turn 13.

This is not a file sharing community
Evboard is not a file sharing community. Posts of warez, serial numbers, key generators, cracks, or any copyrighted material that you are not the copyright holder to is prohibited. Likewise posting requests to any of the prohibited items is also prohibited, as is posting links to off site web pages or services that host the prohibited items.

Exceptions

Links to music that is not available for purchase are allowed (streaming or direct download).
Links to streaming video clips are allowed.
Links to magazine/newspaper scans are allowed.

Before you create a new thread...
AFTER YOU HAVE READ EVERYTHING IN THIS FAQ...

Use the search function. Don't create a new thread if there is already a thread covering the topic.

For a much more detailed explaination on searching along with screenshots please check out the tutorial our very own member "Shivercide" created to help you use the search feature to its fullest. Click HERE
to visit her tutorial thread.

If you are new, you should probably refrain from posting new threads for awhile. Reply to threads that already exist, people are less likely to get pissy with you for mistakes that way.

Don't create a thread simply because you thought up a topic that has not been thought of before. New threads should have a point. See also: this thread and this thread.

Also before you post, read through all of the sticky threads in a particular forum to see if there is anything you need to know before posting or if there is an "official area" for certain kinds of posts (e.g., "Thank you" threads).

Click here for an amusing instructional video.

Double posts are prohibited
Please do not double post (post twice in a row in the same thread). If you feel the need to add some more information to a thread, edit your last post or wait for someone else to post first rather than create a new one.

Exceptions

- You may double post in your own thread in the Your Stuff forum.
- You may double post to add something new in a thread that has been inactive for a long time (over a month).

Use of the color red and a special note on other colors
Please do not use red text when you post. The color red is reserved for moderators. When you see red text on evboard, it's a moderator moderating. Usually this is a sign to slow down, take notice, and gawk. Sometimes you can learn things from red text posts; other times you may simply be entertained by the carnage.

Many members on the board don't have 20/20 vision. With the normal grey on black, it is fairly easy to use. If you want to use colors for all of your posts, that's cool, but think about the people who want to read what you post.

Because when people use colors like dark purple in their posts, people find difficulty reading it. Having to read posts by highlighting them so you can focus on the text gets really annoying. Really quickly.

Brighter colors are fantastic. Pale yellow etc. are easier to read then the standard grey. But the darker colors ... please please think of the kittens, and make sure before you start changing your posts to a different color that it is easy to read on a black background.

Use of 1337-speak / AIM-speak, spelling, and grammar
OMG U R SO L33T!!1!11!1!one

Please do not post like this--ever.

You should have at least an 8th grade education to be posting here, use it. Please refrain from any kind of irc/aim speak that involves destroying the English (or any other) language. Notice how I am writing here? I may have an error here or there--perhaps I misuse a word or end a sentence in a preposition. Perhaps a comma splice or something else along those lines, whatever. In general, however, my post is clear and understandable and I avoid using things such as (but not limited to):
* 'u' and 'r' as in 'u r cool'
* 8 for an "ate" sound such as in "skater" / "sk8r"
* SPEAKING IN ALL CAPS
* Using "plz" instead of "please."

Please make an effort to use proper spelling and grammar.

But see, this thread.

Public bashing of the administrator or moderators
Do you feel like saying "I hate you! You fucktards are ruining this experience for me! Your moderators and admins are fascist pigs!"?

The moderators and administrator put in a lot of work to keep this board being one of the best on the net. They are all volunteers; they do not get paid. Please refrain from badmouthing them.

Posting your gripes in public when you have < 100 posts is also a good way to get banned, or at the least ignored.

If you have a legitimate issue, the moderators welcome you to send your concern to any one of them in a private message. Additionally, this rule does not prohibit civil disagreement between members and moderators. Disagreements will happen from time to time, but the manner in which you handle them is the key.

Suicide posts
"My life sucks, I'm going to kill myself. HELP me!"

If you want help, go get help. Call a suicide hotline, look for a professional counselor or licensed therapist in your area or at your school, or something else along these lines. Don't look for it on a web forum. It would kind of be like asking a room full of monkeys to design a sky scraper.

Be kind
You should conduct yourself in a kind and respectable manner.

For further guidance, see this thread, this thread and this thread.

Reputation system
These are the rules for giving out reputation points.

Do NOT gang up on people and give them tons of negs because you "don't like them".

Do NOT give negs just because you disagree with their opinion. If someone is being an ass, give them one. But please tell them something so they can change. To view your rep point comments just go to the User CP in the upper left corner.

Do NOT send people PMs asking them to give you rep points. If someone sends you one forward it to a moderator.

DO give positive points to people you deem worthy.

Please PM a moderator if you are aware of any abuse of the reputation system.

ONCE AGAIN IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW THESE RULES THERE WILL BE REPERCUSSIONS. Abuse of the reputation system is one avenue to being banned from evboard.

For more technical information on the reputation system, see this FAQ topic.

Posting interviews
First, before you even think about posting a thread about an interview you found on the web or print media, you should SEARCH to see if it is already being discussed.

If you actually have found a new interview, please put the magazine and date/issue/whatever in the subject line of the thread.

Posting SPAM
You should not create threads for the purpose of directing others to your super cool web site or any other person's or corporation's super cool web site. You are free to add a link to a super cool web site in your signature.

You should not post meaningless threads or posts. See also: this thread.

Quoting posts
When you reply to a post by quoting the original, please don't quote the entire original post, especially if it is overly large. We've already read the original post, so if you want to respond to a certain part, just cut it out.

Signature Size Limits
A signature is intended as a short end piece for your posts, it will appear underneath every post you make on the forum and should be as minimal as possible. Large signatures or lengthy passages of text are unnecessary, distracting and take ages to load for users on dial-up.

The specific limits on signatures are specified in this thread.

If your signature exceeds these limits, it may be removed on the whim of a moderator. Do not attempt to circumvent the signature restrictions by appending a false signature to your posts. Doing so may lead to your posts being deleted or your account being banned.

Content Standards and posting common sense
Please refrain from holding 2way conversations on the forums. If you want to chat with someone please take it to the chatroom or off the site. Threads with just two people chatting back and forth that serve no useful purpose to the site will be deleted. Continued abuse will lead to warnings, account suspensions, and eventual banning.

Questionable material does not belong on this board. If you wouldn't want your little brother or sister to see it, or you know that your parents would have something to say about it, it doesn't belong here.

Items that fall into the "questionable material" category include, but are not limited to:
  • obscene, lewd, or provocative pictures or text
  • discussion of illicit or illegal activities
  • threats of physical harm (up to and including death threats)
  • graphical depiction or promotion of self-harm
  • anything else that would shock the conscience of a rational human being

Causing drama with other boards is not allowed
To any of you from this board who think it's cute to go over to other boards and stir up trouble, be assured - it is not. You WILL be banned permanently if you are caught doing this.

Reporting posts
If you report a post (by clicking on the button that looks like this: Report Bad Post , PLEASE leave a comment. Please describe in detail why you feel the post should be locked, deleted, or moved. If you clicked the button on accident, please tell us in a comment.

Announcement regarding stickies
Some of you may notice that the moderating team will periodically "unstick" some threads. This is because some of these threads are either no longer really needed as a sticky or should not have ever been a sticky in the first place.

This is a housecleaning measure because stickies have a tendancy to take over the forums.

PM a mod if you have a thread that you think should be a sticky and let us make a decision.

See also: this thread.

Do not use the forums like an IM program
Please refrain from holding 2way conversations on the forums. If you want to chat with someone please take it to the chatroom or off the site. Threads with just two people chatting back and forth that serve no useful purpose to the site will be deleted. Continued abuse will lead to warnings, account suspensions, and eventual banning.
