I found this rather ironic, since there are a bunch of Flyleaf fans on this board.....

If a person were looking for a band that is both aurally and visually similar to Evanescence, then Flyleaf is the band for him. There is nothing quite like listening to a copycat artist for the first time, especially a copycat of a band that does not deserve to be copied in the first place.

In the case of Flyleaf, a five-piece hard rock band with a female frontgirl, if it was their goal to look and sound like a group that became absurdly popular sometime around two years ago with a song called “Bring Me To Life,” then they have succeeded admirably.

However, Evanescence, despite being extremely unlikable at points, were fairly original when they were first heard. Flyleaf, on the other hand, sounds essentially like any other modern hard rock band, minus the fact that Lacey Mosley’s strain to hit the high notes sounds less like Amy Lee and more like Michelle Branch.

This makes Mosley something of a strange choice as frontgirl for a band trying so hard to be Evanescence, and she could be doing something more reasonable, like, say, following the career path of Ashlee Simpson or someone of the sort. But the different feel of her voice is likely the most original part of Flyleaf, and that has to count for something. Despite that minor detail of vocal styling, though, this is a time when all modern music is beginning to sound the same. Flyleaf is exactly the kind of thing the mainstream scene does not need.

To be kind, all of their songs are about the same level of awful, but there is lyrical depth here at points. “Cassie” tells the haunting story of the girl who admitted to belief in God at gunpoint way back in the time of Columbine. However, the potential goodness of this particular song is marred by pseudo-hardcore screams punctuating particular lyrics. It is difficult to comment on any of these songs; they all sound the same, and they all hurt one’s ears just the same.

Even the most loyal of Evanescence fans should not pick up this record. They owe it to themselves.

eh everyone gets bashed at somepoint in time.

we all think Flyleaf is a great band and thats all that maters. Trying to copy Ev, thats absurd. i dont think any of their songs are like Ev songs...

I agree, people hear a female lead singer, and automatically they go "Oh boy another Evanescence wannabe." People need to stop finding comparisons for every band out there and just let them stand on their own merits.

Flyleaf comes out, they're accused of ripping Ev. When Ev came out, everyone said that they were ripping Nightwish. Its a vicious cycle. The next band will be accused of ripping Flyleaf.

holy cow ive been away from evboard for a freaking long time... i jus thought id drop a line or two cuz i saw the flyleaf thread. band. kicks. ass. The only reason i cant go to the fall brawl stop in fort worth is cuz my family is going to oklahoma for thanksgiving the day before and i wont get back till friday... oh well, ill jus have to make up for it by advertising the hell outta them.

BTW, the Scranton PA show was cancelled and replaced with the Starland show according to the official site.

but what is this I heard about Flyleaf and the Christmas song "Do You Hear What I Hear" ??
