I was watching the Today show this morning and was really bothered by something they reported. Apparently, the military offers free plastic surgery to those in active service. They had three guests..one was a lady who wrote an article about it, one was a lady who had oral surgery while she was active duty in the Navy, and then they had an Army plastic surgeron. You can have ELECTIVE plastic surgery done if you are active military for FREE!!!!! The Army surgeron said this is just a way to keep the surgerons skilled and practicing so they can provide excellent care for those who do need plastic surgery for reconstructive reasons. The lady who had her teeth fixed and some other face work said she saw nothing wrong with tax dollars going to this because they are supposed to provide her medical care. I'm sorry..since when did elective plastic surgery become necessary medical health care. I am glad we have people who want to sign up and defend this country because God knows I have no desire to be in the military. I thank these people constantly and have many friends in the military..but I think it's absolute bullshit for our tax dollars to be used for ELECTIVE, COSMETIC surgery. Reconstructive surgery is something totally different and I have zero problem with that.but..I do have a problem with some of my tax money going so someone can have a boob job or their nose fixed. Did anyone else see the story?

What if someone's face gets blown half off, and they need plastic surgery to look and feel somewhat okay about themselves again?

That's ridiculous that they can have free elective surgery. You'd think the military doctors would have enough work that they don't have time to "keep in practice" for the people that actually NEED reconstructive surgery. Don't they get enough practice, since we're at war?

If that happens...I have no problem with the surgery..at that point it's reconstructive..and I believe they should have the surgery done. But what the story about..was FREE, ELECTIVE, and purely COSMETIC surgery..which in my opinion is b.s...we shouldn't be paying for people to have nose jobs or boob jobs or lipo.

All I have to say is so what? I mean really, active duty military benefits suck ass. Big Time. So they can get plastic surgery if they want it, they're gonna get sent somewhere and risk their lives to defend the people who don't have the courage to do what they do, and you want to begrudge them something like plastic surgery? So they have the option to feel better about themselves? I don't see the big deal. Our tax dollars are being spent on bigger stupidities and all you object to is this?

Well, I don't see it as necessary, but for the people who are fighting this war for our sake, that's really the least we can give them.

I would like to see these soldiers come back and leave say a year's time to see their opinions to how they're being treated coming back.

I'd really hate to see returning soldiers not have benefits in coming back here.

If it's possible, take cosmetic surgery out and put more benefits into the benefits that we already have given them.

It doesn't suprise me.

My bf's military, and I can't believe at times some of the s*** they get (or can get away with). Like Anjuli said, they've signed their lives over and are ready to go to war if need be, so why not?
