I do get mad at people when they call each other "gay" or anything that falls into it. What if that person is gay? Or better yet what if a gay person walks by you? What are you going to say if they confront you? I'm for gay pride so it just ticks me off when people say "This is gay." Why then is it gay? Couldn't you just say "This is stupid." instead? Our vocab is being murder as I see it. Flame me if you want but as I believe there are people in this world that either need to shut up or grow up.

What if that gay person doesnt mind? In the same way some black people go "wassup nigga" randomly, what if a gay person slings around 'fag' and 'gay' like everyone else? Does that change its position?

My teacher always puts it this way: What would you do if someone used your name as something bad? Like, my name's Kirstin, and if someone hated something, they said, "Eww, that's so Kirstin!" I understand that a lot of people probably really get offended, but you have to keep it in context. If it's people who are open-minded enough, they shouldn't really mind, but it's one of those things that you have to know who you're around before you speak. It's hard to know what will set someone off otherwise.

i find that being gay is nothing wrong. in the end we're all people and we all have different ways of living our life.so how does one person have the right to judge another person by just looking at their sexual orientation. it isnt justified.

*smiles* I say gay all the time. not as an insult, just meaning like, crappy or annoyed. "omg that is so gay!" etc. But I'm not a homophobe or anything. people do get so annoyed by it nowadays though. I've gotten people telling me all sorts of stuff about how I'm immauture and whatnot. ah well. it's just one of those things I guess. personally, I find people using the word "sick" as good or cool more irritating

*shrugs* thats just my opinion...

Instead of using “gay” as a negative term I usually use “homophobic.” For example, “Man, that was one homophobic kickflip.” Try it – the four syllables add extra emphasis that you wouldn’t get from a one syllable word, and people will pay more attention to what you are saying.
Appart from that, if someone describes something as “gay” I will usually catch them up on it. For example, “That movie was pretty gay.” “Oh? Really? Does it have sex with movies of the same or similar genre?” You don’t need to whinge if you can make your point in a humorous manner.

live wire will become famous soon enough
This probably is a whingy but below is a link to a Rainbow Network article from today about a BBC radio DJ saying a ringtone is gay. The BBC claims that "the word ‘gay’ has evolved into meaning ‘lame’". While I think Rainbow, in news reporting terms, is closer to the Daily Star than the Guardian, this is still bull, and it proves that even the masters of political correctness are coming to accept it as a negative term which I and several other evboarders know is wrong.

This seems such a petty thing to be bothered by in general. It's wordage and unfortunately, we misuse words to the point that they do evovle into newer and more popular meanings. It's never something that's going to be avoided. Frankly, it's a matter of being able to stand above it... and that also includes not worrying about being politically correct, or looking down on someone else that "slipped" in using perfect terminology. It's stupid.

End.

The term gay in reference to homosexuality is exactly that. A misuse and evolution.
