Hide My Wish On a Fallen Star
In the depths of the woods, A little girl crawls Torn and beaten she reached a clearing Where the full moon shone bright "Show me the way out," she cried. The moon looked down from Its star-crested throne "Answer me a riddle and I'll light the way," It said. "A man sits on a road and eats of a bitter thing. What is it?" All night the little girl thought Shouting at the ever silent moon But watched as It turned Its back on her When the sun rose. The little girl came back to the clearing When night fell But the moon did not light the sky. She searched to no avail for Its shining face And fell to the ground in despair, Taking deep breaths to quiet the thud of her heart. Her face stilled. "His heart..." she whispered. "He ate of his heart." |
