How will the human race end?

You decide! Well, kinda...not really. Choices are:

1. In 5 billion years when the sun turns into a red giant (or then a white dwarf) and we're engulfed in a planetary nebula (we'll be too dumb to have left the solar system).

Chances of happening: Definite

Pain of death: Pretty nasty.

2. A big asteroid will wipe out all humans (like the dinosaurs) and marsupials will reign supreme.

Chances of happening: Are detectable long before impact, so kinda slim. One is coming in 2029, let's see what happens, shall we?

Pain: Depends how big it is.

3. God appears and ends human life, for whatever reason.

Chances of happening: Undeterminable (is that a word?).

Pain: Of His choosing. *gulp*

4. The Big Crunch. If the universe is expanding, it may start shrinking too, meaning there may be a cycle of Big Bangs and then Big Crunches.

Chances of happening: A theory, a theory which unfortunately makes sense. But since when has the universe made sense?

Pain: Having the universe squash you can't be pretty.

5. O-Zone layer being destroyed.

Chances: It IS happening.

Pain: It hurts when you even look at the sun, so very painful. Don't forget that lovely radiation too.

6. The human race will never end.

Chances of happening: Psh, I suppose it could happen.

Pain: *Makes witty comment*

7. The human race will end, but we will have gotten jiggy with other aliens, so crossbreeds will still remain.

Chances of happening: Don't have a clue, there'd have to be aliens for a start, then they'd have to be attractive.

Pain: I dread to think how aliens mate.

8. The Brain (and Pinky) will finally be successful in taking over the world.

Chances: Inevitable.

Pain: Of his choosing *gulp again*.

9. Alien invasion.

Chances: Well, sure, why not...

Pain: Only kinky swingers enjoy having things shoved up there...

10. A disease will evolve to the extent that it becomes an incurable, unpreventable pandemic and kills everyone.

Chances: There have been epidemics and pandemics, and there are incurable diseases. 2 + 2 = 4.

Pain: I would think bloody painful.

11. Black hole, nebula or other mind-blowing space matter enters the solar system.

Chances: The solar system not just orbits the centre of the Milky Way, it 'bounces' up and down, moving in and out of the rings. Although very slim, there is a slight chance that a black hole decides to make this place home.

Pain: I've never had time and space torn in front of me, so I couldn't tell ya.

12. Global warming eventually turns Earth into a poor man's Venus, obviously killing all.

Chances: Can do, weather has changed drastically.

Pain: Surprisingly quick. On Venus, you'd live for a split second.

13. Once the moon is pulled so far away from the Earth (it moves away 3cm a year), it comes into the orbit of Mars and they collide, which starts a planetary pinball machine, and we're the bumper.

Chances: WTF?

Pain: Like kidney stones.

14. Other, your choice.

When the sun decides to supernova on us, I don't think any of us will feel any pain. Ha. Ha.

Anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if this whole world is destroyed before then. By our own hands. Damn human virus, destroying everything!!1

We're in the middle of tearing apart the O-zone layer already, so I'm going with that one...

Actually (yes - this is a The More You Know moment, bear with), while there are BIG holes in the ozone layer... there were reports on the news a month ago or something. Apparently some woman solved the problem. She KNOWS why the ozone layer has been deteriorating and they've already started implementing a strategy to fix it. They said the holes should be filled in a few years.

On the downside, the treatment to fix the ozone layer is actually going to make Global Warming a huger problem. ^.^; What contributes to fixing one thing, helps to destroy another. I <3 the human race.

So... actually... based on that argument Global Warming = 1 : ozone = 0. ^.^;

But isn't Global Warming a result of the destruction of the O-zone layer? Hmm... OK, you have me on this one. :/

Rocky118 is on a distinguished road
I think that the human race will end with a giant asteroid hitting the earth and wiping us all out like with the Dinosaurs. And then I think something else will like.. ya know "rule the world", say, cats and then in a bajillion years another asteroid wipes them out.
So once a species gets too big, you might say, it all gets destroyed :O.
But meh, that's just what I think. =|
But I hope not, obviously.

Here ya go Nyx. I found a link because I <3 you. (Apparently, since this news broke, if you do a search you get shitloads of articles on it. They all basically say the same thing though.) Ahh, it's all slowly coming back to me.

CFCs replaced by chemicals that release greenhouse gas emissions

WASHINGTON - Cool your home, warm the planet.

When more than two dozen countries undertook in 1989 to fix the ozone hole over Antarctica, they began replacing chloroflourocarbons in refrigerators, air conditioners and hair spray.

But they had little idea that using other gases that contain chlorine or fluorine instead also would contribute greatly to global warming.

CFCs destroy ozone, the atmospheric layer that helps protect against the sun’s most harmful rays, and trap the earth’s heat, contributing to a rise in average surface temperatures.

In theory, the ban should have helped both problems. But the countries that first signed the Montreal Protocol 17 years ago failed to recognize that CFC users would seek out the cheapest available alternative.

The chemicals that replaced CFCs are better for the ozone layer, but do little to help global warming. These chemicals, too, act as a reflective layer in the atmosphere that traps heat like a greenhouse.

That effect is at odds with the intent of a second treaty, drawn up in Kyoto, Japan, in 1997 by the same countries behind the Montreal pact. In fact, the volume of greenhouse gases created as a result of the Montreal agreement’s phaseout of CFCs is two times to three times the amount of global-warming carbon dioxide the Kyoto agreement is supposed to eliminate.

This unintended consequence now haunts the nations that signed both U.N. treaties.

Switzerland first tried in 1990 to sound an alarm that the solution for plugging the ozone hole might contribute to another environmental problem. The reaction?

“Nothing, or almost,” said Blaise Horisberger, the Swiss representative to U.N.-backed Montreal treaty. “We have been permanently raising this issue. It has been really difficult.”

Horisberger, a biologist with the Swiss Agency for the Environment, Forests and Landscape, kept trying. Finally, the first formal, secret talks on the subject were held in Montreal last month.

“Saving the ozone layer by reducing CFCs and at the same time promoting alternatives was an urgent crisis in the early years of the Montreal Protocol,” said Marco Gonzalez, the treaty’s executive secretary, in Nairobi, Kenya. “Now there is always a need to find new substances which are safe, energy-efficient and also have minimal impact across a range of environmental issues.”
