No problem. Someone has to, and if I'm the only mod on, I'm not afraid to do it.

Plus, it's really embarrassing to see all the stupid stuff. It drags the threads down.

So...I'll stop with the off-topicness that came about when I tried to keep this thread ON topic.

annoying at times

soda pop...you're right...it can be tough to distinguish the "artistic" and "selling sex" boundaries...the thing that i usually think of is how consistent the artist is...now, obviously this isn't 100% accurate..but it works in general terms...

just try to think of an artists' videos and if the majority of them are barely dressed..in my book, they're selling sex...again GENERAL terms here...

it can be frustrating with artists like christina aguilera because her voice has so much damn potential...i look forward to her future projects...but can she at least wear some shorts that are a TAD longer...

if they're happy with what they're portraying and how they are making money, that is for them to deal with...but it'd be nice to not have it flaunted everywhere all the time

okay, ill try my best to describe why I think these two expressions are so different...
I don't think there's anything wrong with sexuality. Sexuality is natural and beautiful, though it's very intimate in our culture, making it sometimes akward or embarassing to watch stuff like the Bjork videos you mentioned, (or at leaset very hard for your mom to accept her daughter enjoying them asthetically). What I love about good artists is that they can address any human feeling, and Bjork simply seems to transcribe her heart into music, words, and visual images. What bothers me about so many female pop artists is that sexuality is the only subject matter, or at least the majority of it, because sex sells. The most succesful musicians of our time dont even write their own music. Its all scripted, ingenuine slop that has a catchy hook and a great cleavage singing lead. The real message of the music is that we're all fools for buying into a manufactured package fronted by a real live person and not much else. The most offensive thing about it is that alot of these artists got their start with children's programming (the disney channel, nickelodeon etc.), so their fanbase at least began with kids...Of course we all know that it's still kids. That's the worst part.
is any of that what you were thinking?

love

I agree, people buying those albums doesn't exactly help dismiss the message to those artists who use their sexuality just to sell more albums.

oh yeah, p.s.,
As a woman I feel offended because these artists portray women as people that can only do well in the world by selling their bodies. I'm determined to help prove that to be false.

I totally forgot that Xtina and Britney came from that Mickey Mouse show. I think the worst thing is when kids try to dress up and be their idols...no wonder kids are wanting to grow up quicker. It's like all the clothes that are out now for like 3 years olds, that are totally meant for older teenagers, but are like shrunk for these little kids. I wonder how much worse it'll get?

My daughter loves very much your videos, she's 10. y.o. and is always wondering about your clothes and how beautiful you are. She never says, oh look the singer of your fav band showing the b00bs here and there, but... aw... papa... she's so sweet...

No comments about other videos, I NEVER permit to watch them at home without cheking first. Not good for her, probably her mum will do but I don't , while she's under my own roof at least.
