Originally released on the original Evanescence EP in 1998, the song has evolved through 6 different versions:

• The original is the one found on the Evanescence EP. Track #3
• The next appearance was the Origin recording. Track #3
• An acoustic version bootlegged by a local (dev on the Evboard) from the band’s January 13th Fallen party later released on the Internet.
• Fallen version. Track #7
• The 2 demo versions.

Amy Lee wrote the song and it apparently refers to her old room. The song is interpreted as finding a place to escape personal troubles and the outside world.

The song had actually been released as an airplay single in Spain. The song debuted and peaked at #17 on the charts. The video was a clip from Live in Cologne (See Cologne, Live in)

I found some different versions of Imaginary that are not listed here.

- One starts with a piano solo and it has the same lyrics structure as the Evanescence EP version, but it repeats the chorus at the end. This song ends with a piano solo again. In the Net it's titled as "Imaginary (Origin EP version)".

And I couldn't find the Evanescence EP version (acoustic guitars only intro) neither the Origin EP version with the chorus before and after "If you need to leave the world you live in...". Where can I find them?

Imaginary (Origin EP version) = Imaginary - Origin version. But your lyrics is more correct, cuz after "I linger in the doorway.." there's no chorus (at least, with the lines "In my field of paper flowers..").

Imaginary 2.0 is Imaginary 2.0. I still don't know why it's not Imaginary V.2 or something.

But could it be..

And I got a question. Is 'Monsters' the correct title for Imaginary 1.0 or it's just a fan title?

I know that this is not an official Evanescence product, but on the After Midnight DVD, it said that Amy wrote Imaginary to "escape a nightmare she was having".

You don't even need the DVD to tell that

I figured this would be the best place to ask about this:

In the "reference" thread, under "appearances", it states that Imaginary was used in the trailer for The Village. Try as I might, I can't find this. Can anyone help me out?

Yeah, that totally makes sense, and I think this version is the best version of Imaginary, and yes, just because of that small verse. The whole theme of "Imaginary" becomes more alive with it, well, for me at least.

Also, you can clearly hear her say the word if you listen to it, and it's nothing literal (for those who might take it that way), it's something metaphorical, and very, very beautiful.

I love this version so much.

I've only got origin and fallen versions. I think it would have to be my favourite evanescence song of all time, in all its guises. Especially the origin version, although the second verse in the fallen one rocks hard.
