Though it may be frustrating to have your messages be in the moderation queue, it is a necessary evil based on tons of past exerience with all types of obnoxiousness. Be patient Laurey, you will soon be out of the mod que. Read the FAQs for more information

Being a mod myself, if you knew the amount of posts that don't make it through the mod queue (meaningless, inappropriate...and of course spam) you would feel differently. The newbie filter is love.

Maybe a status thing, for moods?

Maybe the mods could send out emails to all the old members telling them about the new EvBoard and maybe they'll come back. These sound like interesting people. I wanna meet them.
