Jobs?

This might not seem like a significant thing to ask advice for, but I was mainly curious how old some of the posters on here were when they got their first job. At the end of this school semester, I wanted to think of getting a summer job such as a stocker at Walgreens. I'm also curious how old you're supposed to be to get a job. I usually hear you have to be about 15-17 to get a job, and I was thinking I would be to get a job because by the time the semester is over I'll be 15. Does anybody know if there is an actual set age to get a job? It may be different by state/county but I just want an estimation. Once again, I'm sorry if this isn't completely an advice topic. I just want more than one opinion/answer.

It does vary. I know back when I was younger, McDonald's would higher kids as young as 14.5 or 15. I think there is a state minimum, but it's also up to the employer as well. Some employers will request that you be either 16 or 18 or even 21. In Ohio, the typical age you could start working was 16.

I got my first job at 16, because I was finally old enough to get one. I recommend getting a job as soon as you're old enough. It's good for you in many respects.

First real job? Hmm, let me see...

...19.

But I highly advise you start out a little sooner. 15-16 is probably a good age. Here in VA the age is 16 for almost everywhere. Some special places will let you work with a "worker's permit" at 14 or 15. But normally you have to know someone there or they have to be really desperate lol

I got my first job when I was 15. I worked at Hy-Vee, a grocery store, starting out as a bagger, worked my way up to a cashier, then up to general merchandise and camera/video/one-hour photo. As a sophomore in high school, I saved 300 dollars to put myself through driver's ed and another 1000 dollars for a down payment on my first car. My parents were poor, and so I had to take care of shit myself.

I attribute my good work ethic to that freaking job and the discipline I had to have in order to save money at such a young age. I agree with what people are saying: the sooner, the better.

Good luck!

I've never had a job in my almost 22 years of life. Wish I changed it before I turn 22 but that entirely depends on my health condition. *sighs*

My students are all looking for summer jobs right now, ranging from working on a farm, to Six Flags, to McDonald's and Wendy's. Typically they start getting jobs at 15+. Just make sure you have reliable transportation, that's the biggest issue some of my kids have; they think they have a ride all set up, and someone backs out, or are just plain unreliable and leaves them hanging, or they
