i've already seen this movie twice, and i loved it. some people think that it just glorifies teen pregnancy though, which i can defenitley see how they would think that. personally, i think it's a great movie, and the soundtrack is decent too. for anyone who hasn't seen it yet, go and see it with an open mind. it's really good, but i can see how others might not like it. btw, micheal cera was great in it!!!

^ Still haven't seen it myself, but I have heard that Juno chooses to adopt her baby rather than abort because she is confronted by an anti abortiionist who tells her the fetus has fingernails.
Sounds more like an anti abortion agenda to me, rather than glorifying teen pregnancy. |

I've decided not to see this movie, based on moral grounds (yes, I do this concerning movies/books/etc). I refuse to see a movie that actually idolizes teenage pregnancy by showing it as anything more than an absolute tragedy. Teenage pregnancy is a TRAGEDY. All the clips of that movie, I've seen have been fairly upbeat, light-hearted, even laughable, and it seems like the girl just finds a family to give the baby to, cue happy ending here. No thanks.
I don't feel like this movie would be able to add anything to my life, and I just don't agree with it. I even asked someone that saw the movie whether it was heart-breaking or tear-jerking and she said (after an awkward pause, but then continued in the hopes of redeeming the movie), "... There's tears in it." Based on the reviews of the movie and opinions of people that have seen this movie, I can't conclude that it is something discouraging teenage pregnancy and/or viewing it with anything more than a very heavy/sorrowful eye. I just have no interest in being witness to something like this.

Wow. I just watched this. Like 10 minutes ago.
![]() I've always wondered why some people view it as "idolizing teen pregnancy". The movie is actually about making choices in life and how it affects other people - even to total strangers (i.e. Juno deciding to have the baby for adoption rather than abortion, the husband leaving Vanessa). It's pro-life, which I believe is the most important part. It talks about how people can be pretty judgmental of others (i.e. Bleek's mom, ultrasound technician). If you try to look beyond the teen pregnancy thing, you'll be able grasp the thing that really matters and it's not quite possible if you just go over short clips from the film. ![]() |

^ The fact that it is blatenty pro life is what I have a problem with. I wonder where are all the anti abortionists praising this movie, instead of 'Horton Hears A Who?'
Jane is right though, teen pregnancy should not be glorified, although I don't think all teen pregnancies are something to be seen as tragic. The film is about making choices, though, and this movie happens to show Juno choosing adoption for her baby rather than abortion. The trouble is, while Juno seems to have found a loving home for her baby, the reality is that the adoption process in real life is nothing like this at all. The movie seems to glorify adoption as the 'right' choice to unplanned pregnancy, when it isn't actually the right choice, depending on the circumstances. I think too many people are willing to believe adoption solves all problems, but it's really not the way it appears to be portrayed. I was wanting to see this film quite badly, but having thought about the fact that it seems to be pushing a pro life agenda, whether intentional or not, I won't be watching it. And now this is not a debate forum lol though it is interesting to read peoples views of what they believe the movie portrayed. |

I didn't once thought that the movie glorified teen pregnancy though you're right that it shouldn't be considered a tragedy.
![]() The film is more like what would one do given the same situation. I mean, these things happen for real and the movie shows how it could possibly turn out. I agree that adoption doesn't solve all problems, but I also strongly believe that it's more humane than killing an innocent life. How can pro-life be bad thing? Don't worry we're still talking about the movie anyway, so I don't think it's that wrong to talk about points of view. ![]() |
