Three times. One-Two-Three. My friend has this really annoying thing where he knocks over and over until you open the door. The visit only goes downhill from there.

If it's someone I know and Im hyper then I knock continuesly and kick the door and ring the doorbell all at the same time.
But if it's someone I dont know I knock three times. Cause I know it'd piss me off if someone knocked more than three times on my door.

I always knock 7 times. I have a thing for doing things in sevens, which is pretty strange given that I have evens disorder with my OCD

AMEN. I used to ring the doorbell though. I did it at 3am to wake everyone up, and I'd throw rocks at the door with my friends. Until a guy came out one day from a house with an air rifle looking for me and my friends, that is.

around 3 to 5 I guess. It depends on how far away I estimate the person behind the door to be and the level of background noise.

Incidentally, people who don't bother to use the doorbell bug me.

And the explosives are generally only 1 instead of 3. Kinda one big "BANG!"

And yeah, it bothers me when people don't knock, either. Especially at my college dorm. There was a guy friend of mine who used to just come in without knocking. Eek. Good thing that doesn't happen anymore.

Well, if it's the door of a classroom or any other room I don't know, I'll knock 2 times. Wait...now I think of it, I think I always do 2 times...sometimes 3, and sometimes I'll just almost destroy the door

What a great funny question! I always knock three times. If there is no answer I'll knock one more set of three and if there is still no answer I just go away.
