I found a translation of the Latin that Amy posted back in the first post of this thread; there's a web page (http://www.students.cs.uu.nl/people/...r/requiem.html if anyone cares) with the entire Requiem text and translation.
But, here's the stuff from Lacrymosa: Lacrimosa Lacrimosa dies illa, qua resurget ex favilla judicandus home reus. This day full of tears when from the ashes arises guilty man, to be judged: Huic ergo parce, Deus, pie Jesu, Jesu Domine! Dona eis, eis requiem! Amen. Lord, have mercy upon him. Gentle Lord Jesus, grant them rest. Amen. Text of the same color is the Latin and it's translation to try and avoid confusion. Credit to the web site listed above. Enjoy! I know I have been. The 3rd can't come fast enough, that 30-sec preview is waaaay too short! -Craig

Lacrymosa...I weep for the beauty of this song
Many people have attempted to adapt older songs to the modern times, and few actually succeed.
However, I am happy to say that Amy succeeded in adopting one of Mozart's most haunting and unfinished requiems and modernize it. I think the lyrics, her voice especially and the guitar strings enhance the beauty of such a classically brilliant piece. I think it is beautiful and for me this song even surpasses 'My Immortal'. I had a friend of mine, who has played the piano for about 17 years now and knows almost all works by classical composers, listen to it and he said they did an excellent job in the way they adapted the song. And this is a guy who is a very talented artist himself. I don't think adapting a song and modernizing it is problematic at all. It is done in poetry all the time. We study the structures that the classical, Medieval, Renaissance, Romantic, Enlightenment, Modern and Post-Modern poets used and adapt our poetry to those structures with differing results. I myself have experimented with iambic pentameter, the sonnet structure, haiku, etc by learning and studying the old masters and I think that Amy has done the same by learning from classical composers like Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, etc. And in my opinion it shows through in the music she creates. It's just beautiful and has longevity. If done right, the results are beautiful, if not, it can become a mess. However, in my opinion, Evanescence has created a masterpiece with Lacrymosa...it is one of their best songs ever! |

It's ok.
I expected something much much more epic and dramatic and longer. I also expected a guitar solo...but a good guitar solo. I just think the guitar solo in this song sucks...bad. ......real bad.

I hate the going under solo they play live. I love Ben's Going Under solo though. Especially the one he played live.
I also hate Terry's solo to Haunted. I just can't believe he thinks that sounds good.

Although I love this song, I agree that it could have been longer. I thought a song like this could have lasted about 6 minutes. It's not even 4. It's still a great song though.

Ooo, thanks for that translation, Fritzer! Wow, those lyrics fit perfectly with hers. I figured she just used Lacrymosa because she loves it, but now I see that there was a reason she put it to those particular lyrics of hers.
