edit: it got 66% on Rotten Tomatoes, better than many movies that came out this year, so I'll give it a try.

Saints & Soldiers. I can't say it was that good. The acting seemed forced. I expected more, but never mind. I've seen worse films! Only watch it if you like war movies and can't find a better one, otherwise I'd say watch something else. I absolutely love war movies. This one was just.. it could have been so much better, and it wasn't. I guess the acting just.. ruined it, really.

Tomorrow, When The War Began
This movie is based on the book by Australian author John Marsden. The basic plot is this: Australia is taken over by forces unknown, and a group of teenagers fight to get their country back from the invaders. Great book, and was hoping the movie would also be good. The first half an hour was boring. Nothing to write home about. In fact, they could have cut the entire first 30 minutes and continued from then on. It took a little too long to get to the fighting and war scenes. When we did get to the nitty gritty, the film started to get good. I found myself on the edge of my seat at times. The ending was great - leaves it open for a sequel, which is good considering there are 7 books in the series! Only problem I had was that the film was too short - 104 minutes - and we could have seen more fighting and war scenes instead of the garbage at the beginning. One thing the producers in Australia need to remember is not to Americanise our films - one of the charactors mentioned she and her friend used to be in 'second grade' - anyone in Australia would never say this - it's 'grade 2'. That annoyed me, and also the fact that the actors, who were playing 17 year olds, looked in their late 20's at least. That spolied the film for me. Overall, it wasn't that bad. I'd love a sequel, but I hope they leave out the useless trash (the stuff that adds nothing to the film) and get straight to the important stuff. I give this film 7/10. |

"The Runaways" - good!
![]() It's about the famous all-girl rock band of the 1970ies. I don't really know much about them, so there is little I can say about the accuracy of the plot and things like that. And the story is indeed similar to what you'd have expected: 16 y/o girls acting "tough", more and more indulging in rockstar excess, then drugs come into play and everything starts turning to ruin, leading to the eventual disbandment. The actors do a terrific job, especially Dakota Fanning as the main character, the front singer Cherie, and Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett, who was to become the most famous of the bunch. The guy playing the arrogant and self-absorbed manager did a good job too. So even if the story was rather predictable and could probably apply to 1'000 other rock bands, the way it was told as well as the acting made the movie more than worthwhile. |

I watched "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" last night. The original title in Swedish is "Män som hatar kvinnor" which means "Men Who Hate Women". This film is in Swedish with English (or other) subtitles.
It's the screen adaptation of the novel "Men Who Hate Women" by Stieg Larsson. Stieg is now deceased which is a real shame given his works. This particular novel was the first in his Millennium Trilogy. You can find out more about him here http://www.stieglarsson.com/ The tale is a crime thriller and I really do not want to give away any of the plot. There is a plot summary on wikipedia that doesn't give too much up http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gir..._Dragon_Tattoo But my personal advice is don't read any more on the plot ... just be ready for a middle aged male investigative journalist, that ends up teamed with a female hacker with a photographic memory, to investigate what happened to a girl who disappeared 40 years prior. The film is R rated with violence and sex scenes. I very very much enjoyed the film ... although some of the content is disturbing and made me really wonder about the character of man. |

I've read about the movie because Hollywood probably wants to do a remake, so I wanted to see what's so special. I loved the protagonist, Noomi Rapace was the perfect choice for it. Anyway, I liked it. It was kind of disturbing and interesting, it made me think about a lot of stuff. |

I saw The Sorcerers Apprentice.... LOVED it!
Effects where fantastic, Nicholas Cage was brilliant and the story took you to a different world... the only thing lacking was the ending, it was a bit lame, but still a great movie! |

Inception, which I completely just reviewed in the Inception thread, but just to shorten it a bit...
Good, entertaining, but not nearly as OMGWTFONEOFTHEBESTMOVIESEVER as everyone said it was. EDIT: @Sadness: Was Girl with the Dragon Tattoo THAT good? I've picked up the book because everyone keeps raving about it, I'm about 3 chapters in, and it's left me snoozing every time I try to pick it up Please tell me it gets better.
