I think it's about a suicide attempt, or near suicide attempt.

She holds the razor to her skin, and knows that the slightest startle (whisper/heartbeat) will push it through.

But she decides to stick it out for another day. if he stop being the wway he is, he could be anything. If she gives up, she won't be there anymore (the give-up has a double meaning), and she doesn't want to put that guilt on HIM.

So, she won't kill herself like he tells her to, because she knows it will hurt him too much (that is really powerful).

This part sounds like she's talking about rape. But she's being told that he'd never hurt her that way. So, I guess I'm seeing the bold part as coming from his way. Though, your view sounds good to me too, TheLady.

The reason I'm thinking this way is because I don't think she'd say "pretty in your pain" to a guy. Maybe she would, I don't know. And also because of the "held down" part.

This is such a beautiful and powerful song. The emotion in it is amazing. It's right with Like You in its rawness for me, maybe edging it out. It's so painful. =(

The beginning is really tricky to hear. After reading the razor talk I think it's "sparkling gray/through my own veins." But then it doesn't quite mesh with the "watch them pass away" part. Watch what pass away? So maybe it's something else.

It sounds like she's tempted when she sings "And I could be anything..." but then realizes she doesn't need to change.

This song really lives up to its title. I don't think there's a whole lot else to say after all this.

Interesting interpretation. Like that what he's telling her. I can see that.

Pretty could be used for a guy too. Or, she could be talking to herself. Like, putting herself down.

Many interpretations. Like OLD Evanescence, when everyone gets something different from the lyrics.

Also, I like the ending. It's the last song, the last thought, the last, word, the last piano key, that I'm wasting on you.
