Locked Files...?

Okay, so, as some people know, my computer is broken for a while. Got it fixed, and had a bunch of Photoshop .psd's and .jpg's of stuff I'd made on my boyfriend's computer, and burned it all to a CD and moved it over to mine.

Well, some of the files are 'locked'. Just regular .jpg's, not even stuff I saved in Photoshop, base pictures for my avatars and stuff. When I try to open the .psd's in Photoshop, it gives me an error message to the general effect of 'Cannot open this file as it is locked. Go to Windows Explorer and try unlocking the file.' When I try to view the .jpg's in Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, it says 'No Preview Available'.

Also, when I try to delete the files, it says they're being used by the system. I've tried to get into Explorer and unlocking them to no avail. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but...

And this only happened to, like, three .psd's and six or seven regular .jpg's. My boyfriend's running Photoshop CS2 while I'm on 7.0, but I figure if it was a compatability issue all of the .psd's would be unaccessible. We're both on the same version of XP, Professional.

I'm friggin' confused. Help me, please.

Try rebooting, Windows is infamous for making a file as in use (or "locked") and not removng the lock when the application is done with it.

I've tried that. A bunch of times. Everytime I start up my computer and try to open some of these files, they're still 'locked', or whatever. They work fine on my boyfriends computer.

I am confounded.

Try making a copy of the locked files and then opening the copy.

Resave them on the BF's comp, then scan them for viruses before you open them. Check if they are set to read only in properties. I had jpg s like that and they were infected.

1. I tried copying them and they still didn't open.
2. I ran all of them through the virus scan and they're not infected.
3. I went into Safe Mode and tried to delete them [they won't delete] and they stil wouldn't delete.
4. I resaved them and made a CD, brought it over to mine and tried to recopy them over. They open on the desktop, but when I move them over to the designated folder they won't open at all.

What I really want to do now is delete the files that won't open and try to figure out a way to get the files to work. The system is not letting me delete the files that won't open, and I have no idea why.

I think I know what it is. If you made on your boyfriend's computer then his user is the owner of those file. Everytime you try opening it Windows sees that you're not the owner and denyes you access. Here's a little trick if youre an administrator. First open any folder. Then go to tools - folder options - view.
The last check is Use Simple File Sharing. Remove the check from that box. Now close that and select the picture you wanna open but don't open it. Go to properties - security. Select yourself from the user list (if you're not there click add and write the name of your user). When you've selected yourself click advanced. On the first or second tab will be a box that says Take Ownership...
Check it and press OK. That's it.

Having different issues with the same problem...[did that make sense? It made sense in my head...]

Anyway, I'm running Windows XP Home Edition now, and when I try to go into the Folder Settings and find the Use Simple Filesharing checkbox it doesn't, I dunno, EXIST. And I have a crapload of my Photoshop art and stuff that's locked and not showing up. Any suggestions?
