not sure if this counts as a small band, but here it is anyway.
one of my friends recently recomended this. seeing as how only about 3 people ive ever known have been able to figure out my taste in music (and im not yet one of those 3), i took it with a grain of salt. but then i heard that recomendation again from someone else, and a description that caught my interest. finaly, he got it for me as an early Christmas gift and i found out thats 4 people who can figure me out. its really quite beautyful. Loreena McKennitt's style feels kind of like a celtic version of Enya. very smooth, slow paced, but uplifting. very much.. how to describe it.. an earthy feel. a lot of exotic instruments from different countries, mixed with an occational familiar sound of an electric guitar, but not at all rough. and her voice.. doesnt matter what style you like, her voice carries the wight of the song even if you dont like the style. its stunning. for some reason ive always had a soft spot for music that boarders on that celtic flavor. this isnt dark, but it's deep. the lyrics are stories, influenced by folk tales from many different cultures. she finds inspiration by traveling all over the world and taking in the culture through both deep research and experiance. her music is very rich. |

I've listened to Loreena McKinnett for many, many years!! I'd have to say about 10 years or so. Very excellent, I highly recommend her!!!

I love her music. I've known her for quite some time. The music she made for Mists of Avalon is very haunting. She reminds me of Clannad and Enya, but with her own style. (and her voice is different of course).

An Ancient Muse set for release in November
September 18th, 2006. Loreena McKennitt’s seventh studio album, An Ancient Muse, will be released worldwide in November. Produced by Loreena and recorded at Real World Studios in England, An Ancient Muse will be released via Universal Music Canada / Quinlan Road in Canada on November 21, and on the same day via Verve/Quinlan Road in the United States. An Ancient Muse will be released on November 20 in Europe and other territories worldwide. |
