Mac N Cheese

You read right. Mac N Cheese.

Seriously one of the most favorite things my child will eat. And she is super picky.

How do you make it? From scratch, from a box, out of a carton or a tub. I'm curious about the different variations and different recipes ya'll know about this stuff.

When I'm super busy, I make a mix, i prefer the Velveeta Shells and Cheese, but in a pinch Kraft will do. Of course, I have to doctor it up (i.e. I melt cream cheese and throw a handful of shredded cheddar.)

I love making home made however. My local grocery store sells cheese tidbits, which are simply all different cut up ends from deli cheese, then I throw in a package of shredded 3 cheese blend ( I reserve like 1/3 of it for the end,) I'll melt some cream cheese in if I have it, then I pour over it all a mixture of evaporated milk, salt, pepper, Adobo and a beaten egg, and the rest of the shredded cheese on top to make a crust. Yum yum yum

How ever I make my Mac N Cheese, I'll top the dish with buttered bread crumbs, and brown in a hot oven till brown and crunchy. YUMM.

growing up we only had mac n cheese once in a blue moon. Now that I have a kid, she loves the stuff. So she has it at least once a week.
In college we made it with hot dogs or mixed a lil salsa into it.

Holy shiznit! A whole thread dedicated to mac and cheese?!

I make mine more like a casserole.

Cook the noodles
Add velveta, shredded cheddar cheese, eggs, and sometimes a little cream cheese and sour cream.
Bake it.
Top with more shredded cheddar and brown the top in the oven.

Voila! Cheesy goodness.

but for a quick fix, the velveta shells and cheese is good

Am I the only one who doesn't like mac n cheese with the crust on top?

Anywho. I've had the EasyMac before, and it's awful stuff. Maybe I just didn't make it right, but the powdered cheese tasted like...I don't know, salty nacho cheese, which I absolutely can't stand.
But I've always loved the Kraft mac n cheese you make with the mix and butter, there's really no way to mess it up, which is good because I don't cook much. I just add loads of crushed peppercorns and a little bit of shredded melted cheddar, and it's great.
I've only had the privelege of tasting homemade mac n cheese two or three times, and it definitely beats all. Soooo delicious.

I've never had it with the crust on top. So I dunno bout that.
Easy mac comes in nacho cheese flavor. So maybe that's what you had. Were they the packets or the bowls? We get the bowls for my daughter because they are single serving and taste better than the packets.

The bowls. It could have been nacho flavor, I don't remember. I just remember that it was nasty.

Am I the only one whose stomach churns just looking at that picture? The sight, the smell! Urgh!
I have never understood Americans and their mac and cheese. We have something similar over here, cheesy mac or something it's called.

Me, I prefer some two minute noodles in a cup!

Oh mac and cheese...I love it. Before I found out I couldn't eat anything with wheat in it, my favorite brand was Annie's. They made white cheddar mac and cheese with little shells. I could eat that stuff every day when I was a kid. It was DELICIOUS.

Now I prefer Amy's, which is a company that makes organic frozen food. Not sure how organic food in a box is, but they make their mac and cheese with rice pasta, so people like me can eat it!

And in a pinch, I'll melt some cheese and make gluten free pasta and combine it. I'm not fancy or creative, but I do love my mac and cheese.
