Does she really needs to do duets with others (mainly Hip-hop and rap musicians) to sing and have success... bah... She always had her great voice and great lyrics... As you guys said the next single will feature Snoop Dogg, I know I'll have much doubts about me enjoying the album, but I'll look it up and see if I'm mistaken... (I hope I'm mistaken! )

/me goes searching...

Yea, it does annoy me too that she has to do duets with everyone, but I'm hoping that a lot of the CD is just MC. I know that there are supposed to be more slow songs on it (yay ), so that would be nice.

Faster than you can say pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis I found the sample of the music and some more info about the album:

Quote:
Mariah Carey returns to her pop and R&B roots on her new album, "The Emancipation of Mimi," albeit with major dollops of hip-hop. On several tracks previewed for Billboard.com, Carey offers less vocal acrobatics then on recent efforts, proving that less can indeed be more.

Due March 29 via Island Def Jam, the new set will be preceded by the single "Say Something," produced by the Neptunes and featuring Snoop Dogg. Due to hit U.S. radio outlets in January, the slinky, sensual hip-hop jam sports intermittent machine gun-styled beats,

A longtime supporter of club remixes, Carey has commissioned David Morales, Peter Rauhofer and former Pound Boys member David C. to remix "Say Something."

Other album tracks previewed for Billboard.com include the Jermaine Dupri-produced "Get Your Number," a feel-good, dancefloor-primed R&B number that smartly references Imagination's early-'80s top 30 R&B hit, "Just an Illusion." It spotlights the vocals of Dupri, who also helmed the track "Shake You Off."

Carey handled the bulk of the writing on "The Emancipation of Mimi" and also produced the power ballad "Mine Again." Less adult contemporary and more Gladys Knight, the old-school song is signature Carey.

With "Mimi," it appears the artist has re-embraced her pop and R&B roots, albeit with major dollops of hip-hop. And with less vocal acrobatics then on recent efforts, Carey proves that less can indeed be more.

The album also features contributions from producer Kanye West and rappers Nelly and Twista. It's the follow-up to 20002's "Charmbracelet," which debuted at No. 3 on The Billboard 200 and has sold more than 1.1 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

About the music, well, a disappointment 'cause I thought the lyric was to poor and seemed to me like Mariah was back to her backvocals times... The Snoop Dogg part don't know what the hell is doing in the music, the rythm of his voice with the instrumental part don't match at all!

I don't wanna to give up on Mariah but it's just a mess that I feel I must get away the faster as I can... Too much remixes for me...

One day I thought she would never follow the trends of commercial music, I guess I was wrong... but it makes me think if by now the trend wasn't hip-hop and rap music but punk rock or metal, would she follow that?! hum...

But I'm a very patient person I'll look very carefully in the new album for some hope...

/me goes listen to Music Box...

cool, a song with Nelly. I know I'll like that one.

I haven't liked much from her recently. I did like that rain song, and her cover of Def Leppard's "Bringin on the heartbreak" or somthing like that, was wicked. One of my fav's from her. I did love her bakc in the day. With Music Box, and that one with Fantasy and the Boyz II Men song. I can't remember anything right now, lol. But yeah, I might check this out.

I heard the sample too, I like it, it has to grow on you (plus it will sound better when that "Sample Clearence Only" part is out of it). But I think it is radio friendly, and the album itself is supposed to be hot. So we'll see!

My third grade teacher had a crush on her back in the day. I think he was married...

Yea, I def. agree that her older stuff is better. Nonetheless, I still admire her as a person.

I got Mariah Carey (her-self titled album), Music Box and Emotions... I had enough.
