Post Matthew's Poetry

The Gatekeeper

Making my way through the blackened forest,
A feeling that I am not alone washes over me.
It haunts me.
Full of fear, I slowly continue my journey.
Surrounded by darkness,
The unseen nature of the forest whispers about me. It laughs at me.
I come through a gate of prickly thorns,
And I see a tree.
This is no ordinary tree, for it is alive.
Its black trunk forms her body.
Two branches reach out as her arms.
And her head sticks out completely human, touched with dark skin.
Her face is evil, hanging from her lips are two bloody fangs.
The blackness of her bodily trunk is as dark as the Great Abyss.
The tree shone brightly in the center of a blinding red light.
For the tree holds something sacred, something of the Divine.
A portal reaching into the other side.
It beckons me, and I draw myself closer.
I try to see into its endlessness.
The red circle of light, held tightly by the branches, resembles a full moon.
A blood red moon.
The portal whispers, “Come to Me”, and I obey its command.
The evilness of the tree itself does not matter to me.
The portal is much too important; I need to see into the other side.
I come to it. I feel its power, its foreverness come over me.
The branches suddenly wrap around me, suffocating me, ending me.
For the Gatekeeper has done her job…

THOMAS

HE SAVED ME
HE TOLD ME
HE SHOWED ME
HE SAVED THEM
HE TOLD THEM
HE SHOWED THEM
HE KNEW
OUR SOULS
AND HE SAVED THE WORLD
BUT MY BROTHERS AND I
WE SAW IT ALL
SO I SHOULD HAVE SEEN
THE BEAUTY HE BESTOWED ON ME
LOST
A WORD SO STITCHED ON MY SOUL
AGAIN
I WAS AWAY
AND WHEN I CAME TO SEE
HE CAME BACK TO ME
BUT I DIDN’T BELIEVE
THE LOYAL ONE DIDN’T BELIEVE
SO A CURSE CAME UPON ME
AND NOT FOR TWO-THOUSAND YEARS
WILL IT BE RELIEVED
UNTIL I FIX THE DOUBT
BURNING DEEP INSIDE OF ME

-Matthew Novak

(here is a poem that I wrote for my creative writing class. It is what they called a "mock" poem. You have to copy a certain artists style of poetry. Well I did something different, I took quotes from 3 certain places (of course:Evanescence, The Beatles and the Bible) and I created a poem of my own using their messages and created a message of my own...)

THE ANSWERS:
“You hold the answers deep within your own mind. Consciously you’ve forgotten it. That’s the way the human mind works. Whenever something is too unpleasant, too shameful for us to entertain, we reject it. We erase it from our memories. But the imprint is always there…”

May you see the meaning from within.
Look into the void, it is shining.
The answers lie within.

Of the beginning,
Of the beginning.

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the Earth.”

From the source we came, so play this game you live.
Love is everything, Love is God.
Love is why we see,
Why we breathe,
Why we walk among these places.

So forget your worries, release your mind.
Invoke your soul…

Because it is being,
It is being.

Through your tears will come a blinding light,
Birthing a dawn to your endless night.
It is knowing,
Yes, it is knowing.

“And God said, ‘Let the Earth bring forth living creatures’”.

We are living,
We are living.

Walking around, so many of you do not know, why you are here, or what may be real.
But you hold the answers deep within your own mind.
So just think, and you will know.

So then instead of walking these endless miles, unaware of who we are, may you relax, turn off your restless mind, and float down the stream of life.
It is a journey,
It is a journey.
Leading to the conclusion,
The place of pure love.

“And God shall wipe away all the tears from their eyes and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things have passed away.”

It is not leaving,
It is not leaving.

I enjoyed all of your work, especially "Thomas". One of my favorite bluegrass songs is about Thomas...."I am the man, Thomas, I am the man; Look at these nail scars here in my hand". Please gift us with more.

You are an incredible and very inspirational writer. I love the Gatekeeper. It reminds me a lot of The Forest Whispers My Name by Cradle of Filth. i love the imagery and description you use. Very vivid. Awesome work. <3

Is there a certain artist that does that song, I would really love to hear it.
