Memoirs of a Geisha [MOVIE]
I'm not sure if any of you have ever heard of that book, Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden, but a movie of that book is now being made and is, according to Sony, due for release in theatres on December 9th!! I'm so excited!! lol I came across this book from a list of books I had to choose for an English assignment, and I definitely didn't expect it to be such an interesting book.
Memoirs of a Geisha, for those of you who havn't heard of the book, is about a former geisha who tells the story of her past--her becoming of a geisha. There's not much to say about the events that the memoir talks about itself, but i can say that it's a story or love that, in the world of the geisha, is impossible to achieve since Geisha itself is an art--the art of entertaining men, and no, the word prostitution won't fit them because they entertain men with conversations and pour tea for them but NOT have sex with them. Here's the link to the trailer if you havn't already seen it: Memoirs of a Geisha Enjoy!! ![]() Edit: here's the official japanese teaser (i'm assuming its just like an trailer...): http://sayuri-movie.jp/ When you get there, click on either Large or Small depending on the speed of your internet service. The book is my absolute favourite book ever. I had to read it in high school, and i ended up buying it for myself, its just that good. I can only hope that the movie does it justice. It'll be hard to live up to such a masterpiece. But the trailer looks beautiful, so fingerws crossed.
A lot of people seem to be pretty upset that a Chinese actress is playing Japanese though. I think it should be good either way. |

Honestly, I don't think it matters to the point of affecting the movie, which looks extremely kickass, by the way. ![]() |

Oh yeah! I remember seeing a few trailers for this a month or two ago.
It didn't look too riveting, though. I'd probably only watch it for the scenery and nice music. Zhang Ziyi = hotness.
