Mental Illness

Im nor sure if this is the wright place for this thread. and i cant recall ever seeing another thread for this subject so i decided to post one. According to online polls and statistics made since 2003. 1 in 5 people has some kind of mental illness. some of them wont know of course but most will. and so on these statistics there must be hundereds of people on here with some form(s) of mental illness and i thought a thread to talk about the conditions we have and maybe give help to those living with somone with mental illness. though that would be covered in the advice section. idk maybe thats where this needs to go. of course i shall start

I have somthing called Aspergers syndrome(prenounced asperjers. some people tend to prenounce it ass-bergers. this i assure you is wrong and sounds stupid as well.. i am not an ass berger) its known has AS or HFA(high functoning autism. but this and AS have come to be considered two different conditions) AS is a mild form of autism. it affects onces ability to deal with social situations and interect with others. communication is some what immpossible for Aspies. often an aspie will never make eye contact. and also he/she will have one fixed expression. a somewhat blank, expresionless expresion...emotionless would be a better word. and we do tend to favour logic over emotion. and go by our minds rather than out hearts. its also often ruled out as simple somthing made up to allow people to act differently and get special treatment. which anyone with AS will tell you is bullshit. we get no special attention and on a general no one gives a shit. also people look at it and say that when pych's see somone who isnt "normal" they give them a name for it and thats what AS is. again anyone with it knows how real it is!. i've ranted way to much about this now. if you have any questions about AS please ask

I have depression and was diagnosed with it when I was 15. Although I don't get those sort of thoughts anymore, I am of the belief that no one is ever cured of mental illness, we just find ways to cope with it ourselves.
People can be ignorant, especially those who think that depression is nothing but an excuse to get attention.
People have to be careful about what they say and do around someone with depression, because depressed people often have feelings of worthlessness, and saying something negative about that person can often make that person feel useless. I have felt useless many times in the past, and even now I still feel that way on occasion, especially having to cope with bitchy people at work whose main goal in life is to make people feel two feet tall. I can cope with it though. Sometimes I cry alone at home and it makes me feel sad, then angry that there people out there who like to offend others and think nothing of it.
All in all, I have come a long way. In all honestly, 10 years ago I never expected to be alive, but here I am. My life got better after I finally starting appriciating myself, and seeing the good in things. I like to think that I am living proof that life does get better. If my life can improve, so can yours.

And that's my two cents on mental illness.

just one thing. im not complaing about my life. im not looking for "improvement" as such. im hoping to raise awareness of AS and autism though and thats what i might turn this thread into. or just maybe another one. but i dont know where id would belong. other than off topic.

Thank you for clarifying, I had no idea. But now that I can't look at that word without thinking of ass burger, I will always know.

The condition of Aspergers may not get better, but your outlook on life certainly can. The more you dwell on how bad things are, and the more you don't expect anything to change, the more likely it is that nothing will change, and you'll get miserable. I don't believe it when someone says they don't want things to get better. Everyone wants to lead a happy life, after all.

um you could properly explain what your point of view is and what you wanted said in this thread!
and what a depressing sad little outlook, you dont want things in your life to get better and improve? everyone wants to live a happy and fulfilling life and well you would be lieing if you said you didnt. id aviod giving out advice as well if i was you in the adivce threads as well if you arent looking to find some happiness in your life.
