Anywhere But Home, track 14 written by: A. Lee, B. Moody, and D. Hodges Recorded during the 2001-2002 demos and revamped as a B-side of the Bring Me to Life commercial single. According to exodusevanescence.com, here is the explanation behind the layers of vocals in Missing: Throughout the verses there is a looped background vocal of Amy whispering "can you stop the fire? please.. please.. please.." and "you can't stop the fire" on the LEFT audio channel plus "can you stand to fight her" and "you won't say the words" on the RIGHT audio channel. Bonus track on Anywhere But Home. Has been internationally released as a radio single. -- Missing-Fallen Outtake (Can you stop the fire? is "Missing" a religious song? i know Evanescence clearly stated in the past couple of years that their music is not at all Christian rock, but this song was written before then, and the song does seem like it could have religious significance...

Wow, now that I look back on the lyrics it does look very relegious, as if the narrator is Jesus (hope I can say such a thing).
I originally thought it was just about a one-way relationship - one person loved but the other couldn't love back - but now I think my interpretation of the song has changed. Well done for spotting that. |

If I'm not mistaken, Amy has said that when her family was moving around a lot, she was on her own a lot. Not only that but everyone has a point in their life where they feel like no one loves them. So I was wondering if maybe they were feeling like this and wrote that song. It's just how I took the song when I first heard this song.

Missing
To anyone in the band who could answer this (or anyone really)-
Missing is probably my favorite Evanescence song and I've made a ton of memories through this song and a few others, but I was wondering where the inspiration for the song came from? Thanks! -Amy F. |

I'm afraid I don't know - so sorry if I got your hopes up! - I would like to know the story behind this song too. Though not my favourite Ev song, I think it is quite possibly the saddest song ever. In a good way! I have a lot of memories attached to it, too...in particular, one really shitty day, during music class, I locked myself away in a practice room and played the song over and over again, until I started crying. Which didn't take very long because, like I said, it's the saddest song ever!
I think it might be an expression of the lonliness Amy described as a child, when her family was moving around a lot. Love Gail xxx |
