I have quite a problem with it. What in the world is fun about misspelling words? And yes, spelling is important. The English language was written the way it was and we're meant to follow the rules. If we weren't, they wouldn't teach us how to spell and use proper grammar in school. Granted, I make spelling mistakes sometimes, but I don't purposely misspell for fun. Writing is just like any other subject in school. Would you purposely rearrange variables in a math equation just for fun?

And as for affecting one's ability to spell, I've seen too many examples of people who use the misspellings that "don't matter on the internet" in important paperwork. Typing like that becomes habit, and habits are hard to break. Like Gareth said, the internet and cell phones have ruined the way people write.

ok fair point made, just incase you didnt know, in the u.k schools are told to not pay all that much attention to spelling mistakes anymore, im inclined to agree to an extent, and i agree that the culture of text talk is destroying peoples minds,

the way i see mispelled words as being fun is that the slightest adjustment can be the difference between a word making sense and a word being utterly hilarious, and at least theres one thread dedicated to it for those who can do it and those who dont see the funny side can just not use that thread,

but as i said, point taken, and i dont entirely disagree

As a teacher, I find it ridiculous to ignore spelling (and grammar) errors. It is essential to have good writing and communication skills, especially since prospective universities and/or employers judge applicants on their written presentations before actually meeting them.

And to continue the game, D is the next letter, and I know most of my kids have no clue how to spell diarrhea

Diarrea? Diharea? Diorea?

How about this. Instead of trying to misspell words, we try to find commonly misspelled words to post. Use Google- it's your friend.

Think of how a young child spells. They can come up with some really funny things.

Yes I know a lot of you are anal about spelling. This is a game of fun. How about you type a misspelled word then the next person tries to spell it correctly. That person then adds a misspelled word and so on.
I know over the years, my spelling has went to crap because I don't write a whole lot except for what I write online. My job doesn't require much more than reading and initialing stuff. Yay for working in the medical field.

Anyhow. Keep it on topic or this thread will be locked faster than you can type "WHY!" This is the only solution to keeping this thread open and some people somewhat happy.

Those that are offended by misspellings and grammar need to just stay out of the thread.
