Music Box (Missing Piece)
It's long... I am already aware. People are allergic to reading, and so most people won't read this, but I don't care. If you wish to read this, thank you. I appreciate it and would love to know what you think. Music Box Time accelerated at incredible speeds in her life. What she knew before felt so far in the past that it didnt even live through a memory. The things that made her smile were no longer used, for the time she once had was no longer there to use them. Life made her a slave to unhappiness. She was subjected to constant work, constant battles, and constant isolation from the people that mattered to her at the highest degree. She was subjected to a search that only gave her dead ends and more pain, but she felt something there. She wanted to find the piece of her that was lost long ago... *** The darkness of the night stains the walls at dusk, and they will remain that way even past dawn. They have for the longest time, and mental images of a bright world are so faint that they feel unreal. The plants in the house adopt the nights darkness and rots from the inside out. The heart of a girl in a corner turns black to match the mood of whats all around her, and like her heart, her eyes turn black as they reflect the world that is before her. The girl rises from her corner and steps forward. Her feet take her out the door into the haunting darkness, a familiar yet frightening place to be. Her mind demands rest but her eyes will not close, so she walks on further into the darkness, not knowing what else to do. A destroyed house to the right and a dead dog on the left rests near her and calls to her. Their coldness and stillness wants to keep her company, but she continues walking forward and becomes one of the last sources of energy on earth. She steps on trash and scum that covers the dark world. The trash suffocates the earth to the best of its ability, raping it of the last bit of life it possesses. The wind itself, which is known for having strong, powerful breaths, seems to wheeze and have a difficult time at existing. Pretty soon the earth will permanently become motionless, stale, and cold. She reaches a familiar tree, and wonders what its significance is. It most likely means nothing. She stops walking. A tear breaks free from her swollen eyes and reflects the sad, empty expression on the girls face. Its a mournful face that shows a sort of pain guaranteed to bring constant suffering. This pain is caused by the absence of herself, by the absence of that lovely person she used to be but is no longer, and though she cannot remember a time when she was this person, she feels and longs to be that person every moment that her mind and body aches from her suffering. She senses that her old self in near, but it is hiding. Her knees buckle and she falls to the ground. Her body cries out that its weak and yet the girl refuses to listen. She hunches over and leans on her hands. They shake so massively and argue back to the girl that she should fight no longer and let her body rest, but the constant pain that haunts the girl leaves her unable to relax. No, she says. I am being deceived. I am being cheated. I was given this pain that has no beginning, that has no root, and that has no reason for haunting me. I know not of where it came from. If the pain has no beginning, then it must be fake. It must be unreal. Ive searched forever, but have found nothing to feed it. She sings to herself to try and convince her mind that it is not ill and can fight this pain. While tears pour from her eyes, a melody escapes from her quivering lips. Endure your suffering. Endure your suffering, she sings. Her arms finally give away and she collapses onto the earth underneath her. She has never felt so heavy, and as she falls her shoulder slams onto a wooden box. She slowly turns her weak, aching body off of it and knows that her shoulder is gushing blood. Her eyes move toward the injury and locks onto it. Its another wound, but this one will heal unlike the rest. An unknown source of energy allows her to reach over and pick up the box. As she lies on her side and holds the box within her hands, she shivers. Goose bumps rise from her body. This box has affects on her in such a unique and powerful way, but the fact that she doesn't remember the box makes it all the more frightening. She is nervous to open the box, though she is unclear why. It is just a box, a simple box. What is the meaning of the feelings that stir within her? A foreign feeling pulls at her heart and tries to inch her hand toward the latch of the box. The temptation to see whats in the box takes a hold of the girl and she opens it with her weak hands that cry out to the cruel world around her. As the lid opens, noise escapes from the box, a calm, soothing, relaxing noise. It is a song that moves the body, heart, and even the soul. Its melody vibrates through her ears and massages her body, and for the first time in all of the girls life, she feels content. She feels so content that her eyes readily close and she falls fast asleep. Her dreams show memories that were kept dormant in her mind, memories that could never be replaced but were forgotten. In her dream she runs on the grass with graceful strides. Another girl is beside her and imitates her happiness. It's her best and everlasting friend. Just by looking at her it is clear that she has never been happier because her smile is impossible to bury. It is a smile that makes the saddest person known content. It fills the heart with energy that could last a lifetime and could cure any sickness that rots the body. It is pure. Both of the girl's hair wisp through the air and part the wind in such gentle ways. Life never seems so perfect. The girl's dream lets her see smiles that she thought was impossible to see, and the world is lit up by them. The darkest part of the ocean and deepest part of a cave is even lit up by these smiles, and for once the world doesn't seem so gloomy. As the girls stop dancing, they collapse on the soft grass welcoming them. They lay motionless but no more alive than they could ever be. A while of silence accompanies them, but the girls friend breaks it when she sits up. She takes out a box and smiles at it with her unforgettable smile. It is a music box that reminds her of a friendship that could never be stronger. She reaches over and takes her best friend's hand. She helps her sit up and then slowly wraps her friends fingers around it. Then she speaks. "I give you this because it elevated my life. Its simple but mighty melody shushed my mind and made it peaceful during a time when it was all too restless. It was the only thing that I had for the longest time, but then you came into my life and gave me all the strength I needed to survive. I no longer need this box, for you have replaced its touch with your own, and it is all that I will ever need. I give this to you in hopes that if there is ever a time that you need reassuring that I care about you, you can listen to this music box and know that I am there even if you don't see me. If you ever need to be rescued, let this box rescue you like it has rescued me and like how you have rescued me time and time again." The girl accepts it with a happy heart and spends a moment admiring the gift she holds. Tears collide with the ground beneath her and express how her friend has such an immense part of her heart. Though she does not have the right words to say, she looks up to give appreciation to her friend, but she has disappeared. The girl wakes up, and her body ceases her aching. She no longer feels weak, and her heart no longer screams. Her tears have dried, and a missed smile appears on her face. Her mind is clearer, and her mind is freer than she had ever imagined it could be. She begins to remember things that she never thought existed. She has memories of her friend, her laughs, and all of what has happened in her life. She remembers the time when she was given a music box. It was to resemble a friendship that changed the world as she saw it. She remembers her best friends smile, and the night of her accident that never took that away from her. She remembers the tree that she once rested against, while she held the music box that her friend had given her. She remembers herself and the moment she was left all alone. She was not just alone but lonely as well, and from that point on she grew more afraid, unhappy, and distant from herself because who she knew before was not the person she morphed to be. She remembers things that she forgot long ago, and though some memories are depressing, others are uplifting. The girl feels like she is given another life, and she is no longer confused about who she is and how she got there. It is a resurrection of another type that is not known to others and could never be explained to others. Still, that doesnt matter, for a new life is opened and the girls sees life in a number of colors. She stands up from the ground and stretches a happy stretch that she has never before experienced. She walks in the direction of her home and she notices that the sky is getting lighter and the earth is getting warmer. The trees come alive and orange leaves pounce excitedly at her eyes. Life is better, and she is ready to conquer the world and conquer her fears. She walks further and a dog rushes up to her with such a cute, lively face. She wonders how she could have taken all of this for granted. Life has given people so much to be in awe for. She looks to the side of her and sees an exquisite house that is so homey and doesnt fail to comfort. It is weird how she never acknowledged its beauty before. She meets the door of her house and steps in. Plants and esthetic sights fill her world. Never has life been so splendid for her. Never has her life been so fulfilled. Another tear falls to the ground, but this one reflects a glamorous expression. Though the girl is alone she is not lonely. She has an understanding of her life and her pain. She has the will to carry on and survive. She has the ability to thank a small music box for saving her life from miserable, depressing times, and until the day she dies, the rhythm of the song will flow through her body and the power of a song will forever be felt. *** Who ever thought a music box could cradle a life so gently? The music box caused her past to be revealed, and though some of it was haunting, she forever stands strong and is a companion to the other part of herself. She doesnt feel naked and doesnt feel lost. She takes every moment and soaks it up knowing that she will not live it again. She survived through depression and woke from her nightmare as a full person. She came out a better person than she ever was, and from this moment on, the power of a song will never be overestimated by her or by those who can relate to her. Apostrophes were deleted in here from posting it... I dunno why... but if you noticed... so did I. :P

Whenever I have strong enough feelings, whether i'm depressed, happy, scared or anything else, I find myself singing things. So I can relate to that paragraph. This story is written beautifully. Like I said wow is all I have to say. Keep it up! |
