I LOVE them  .....they are one of my favorite band!!!
I think Paul McCoy did an awesome collaboration with Amy....their voices fit very well together....
Anyway, right now Paul, Aaron, Greg, Eric and Kevin are working on their 2nd album....it's due to be released somewhere in the beginning of next year :D .

I would say I knew that I learned about 12 stones after EV, but before EV... to clairfy I knew about EV back in the origin days, then heard about 12 stones, before BMTL was recorded with the Lead Singer. I didn't think the colaboration was all that great with Amy. and over all I thought it sucked pretty bad.
But on the other hand I really like 12 stones Music now that i have their CD...
Sincerely,

I have ther album and it's pretty good, I like Paul's voice. But I like other bands better.
When I saw BmtL the first time, I thought Paul is the Ev-Leadsinger, then I checked out the offcial Ev-Site and then I finally got that Paul isn't a Ev-Member (I thought Amy is guestvocal). Checked out the 12Stones - Homepage, but I fell in love with Evanescence :D

I also really like 12 Stones. Their lyrics are great, and I really like Paul's voice, and the instrumentation is great too. I knew them before Evanescence as well, but I didn't start really listening to them until after Evanescence (meaning I only heard Broken and stuff). The band is really good in concert too, which is always a plus.
And about the Christian band thing. I thought they were at first, but I had heard that the band said they weren't. So even though they might be sold in Christian bookstores, I don't think they call themselves a Christian band? I could be wrong though.
Still the best remark that I've ever heard about 12 Stones was when my one friend said "I can't believe you like them, they are just anothe rip-off of Linkin Park." Now I think that's just ridiculous, the music is Totally different. But ah well.

Just thought I'd post this article here for anyone who likes 12 Stones:
Police book former bassist of local band
Group 12 Stones split with him last month
Wednesday March 03, 2004
By Meghan Gordon
St. Tammany bureau
The former bassist of north shore rock band 12 Stones surrendered to Tangipahoa Parish authorities Tuesday and was booked with carnal knowledge of a juvenile.
Kevin Dorr, 21, of Ponchatoula was booked in the Tangipahoa Parish jail in Amite two weeks after state Judge Brenda Ricks of the 21st Judicial District signed a warrant for his arrest.
A short note on the band's Web site announced Dorr's departure Feb. 13.
"12 Stones have parted ways with bassist Kevin Dorr," the Web site said. "The name of the group's new bass player will be announced shortly."
A spokesman for Wind-Up Records, the New York music label that signed the Mandeville group in 2001, wouldn't comment on whether the departure was related to the allegation.
Steve Karas, senior vice president of publicity, said singer Paul McCoy and guitarist Eric Weaver made the change as the group's "co-leaders."
"Ultimately, personnel changes are their decision," Karas said. "Beyond that, there's not much more that I can tell.
"I got a phone call that they were parting ways, which is what they reported to me."
The band, known for its song "Broken," is set to start a tour Friday in Birmingham, Ala. Karas said the band is still looking for Dorr's replacement.
Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office officials deflected calls on the case Tuesday and wouldn't release the probable cause affidavit. "What's all the interest in this?" Chief of Operations Mike Sticker asked. "He's just a guy that's been accused of making a mistake. He's not even in the band anymore."
Dorr's attorney, Roy Burns of Covington, said the musician was shocked by the arrest warrant. "He knows nothing of what it would be about," Burns said.
The group formed in 2000 after introductions at Lanier Music in Mandeville, where employee Pat Quave overheard Weaver testing a guitar. The young musicians met singer McCoy through a friend and then added Dorr to the group after he stopped in the music store for bass strings.
They named the band after an Old Testament reference to the stones God told Joshua to pluck from the Jordan River to commemorate the Israelites' safe crossing. While never dubbing itself a Christian band, 12 Stones has cultivated an image similar to Creed and Grammy winner Evanescence: rock bands with positive messages.
12 Stones lyrics, like those in "Broken," often make reference to faith, sacrifice and prayer.
McCoy recently won a Grammy award for his guest vocals on "Bring Me to Life," last year's big hit by Evanescence.
Dave Fortman, whose Balance Productions is recording 12 Stones' second album, said Dorr told his bandmates about the allegations in early February during recording sessions at Fortman's Mandeville home studio.
"He's always been a huge-hearted dude, and I can't bring myself to believe that he would ever do something like that," Fortman said last week.

I like 12 Stone's music, its very deep, even though its slightly too 'Christian' for me (not offence to anyone!)
The only problem is the album hasn't been released where I live, so I have to go to their site to listen to any songs, lol.
I liked Paul McCoy in BMTL, but I slightly prefer the song without his vocals...it just sounds good with a guitar solo where Paul's voice was in the released version....

Yes, to clear it up. 12 Stones is not a christian band. Yes, each person has their own personal beliefs and relationships with God, but that's about it. They're a rock band, trying to bring out the positive in their lyrics.

They played quite a few new ones. It was an awesome show. Big Dimsal opened for them- very cool guys. One of my favorite big dismal songs is missing you- the one he did with Amy Lee. Anyway, I asked Eric (lead singer) if that song was on the setlist and he said no, because he was sick, and that's one of their hardest songs to do..but he would add it to the list for me anyway. So he did. Its better with Amy but was still really good without her. I met Paul McCoy.. he's a really nice/crazy guy. He is quite entertaining on stage- he did the "robot" throughout the show. I have tons of pics of Paul and the rest of 12 stones..and big dismal..If anyone wants to see them , PM me. But, I might put one up on here later. I did get Paul to sign my Fallen liner. So now I have everyone's sig on there..terry, ben, paul, david hodges, amy, will, rocky, and john. yay.

I love all the tracks but Broken is one of my favourites; also Let Go and Crash. Although Photograph may become my new favourite, we'll have to see...
Btw, it's nice to come to a board where a person doesn't immediately get lynched for saying Paul (or any of the other boys) is attractive. :)

I knew 12 stones before Evanescence too, just like callistio had. I love their song Broken, (you know i need you now.. cuz im) ok you get it.. Anyway, they rock.
Rock on Paul! :D
Well here is the interesting one I know about EV before 12 stones, but I didn't find out about 12 stones because of EV. I found out about 12 stones from this guy I used to live with (about 3 years ago), who was a big Creed fan that came up to me one day asked me if I knew anything about this new Christian band 12 stones that was currently touring with Creed.
I said no. cause up until he asked that question I had never even heard of 12 stones. By this time I already had mp3 copies of Origin, and was attempting to order origin via BigWig records but Paypal was being a but.
Anyways after he mentioned 12 stones I went to go locate more info about them. Didn't think much of them. Anyways, fast forward to EV's first tour last year and at one of their concerts I ended up scoring free copies of 12 stones, Creed's, and Seethers most recent albums. Still haven't listened to Seether yet, but did listen to 12 stones. and I dug them for the most part though they where way better than Creed, from a musical stand point.
Sincerely,
The Master

Scott's Spotlight
12 Stones Interview
by Scott Juba
August 1, 2004
Paul McCoy isn’t your typical 22-year-old musician. At an age when most people are just beginning to define their professional aspirations, McCoy has already firmly established himself in the career that he loves. With a Grammy Award already under his belt, and serving as the lead singer for the popular rock band, 12 Stones, McCoy has proven that no accomplishment is beyond his grasp. Now, after an impressive debut album that has sold over 300,000 copies, McCoy and his bandmates are preparing to issue their sophomore release, “Potter’s Field”. Arriving in stores on August 24th, the band’s second album is a reflection of their professional and personal growth. “(The band’s) grown musically overall,” McCoy tells me. “I think more so than that, we’ve grown as friends and as bandmates. We’ve had a chance to get to know each other and get to really work together rather than just being friends and working on the side every once in awhile.”
12 Stones is recognized for the strong Christian element that they include in their music, a component that McCoy traces back to his southern roots. “I grew up in a southern Baptist church,” he says. “For me, a lot of it was just a part of my upbringing, part of who I was, and who I am still.”
For those of the Christian faith, 12 Stones’ music is filled with hope and eternal optimism. At the same time, the band’s songs have a strong resonance with fans outside of the Christian spectrum as well, mainly because their lyrics often deal with collective themes that speak to all people. “Far Away”, the first single off of “Potter’s Field”, exemplifies this quality. “It was one of our more honest songs,” McCoy remarks. “When people keep pushing you and keep trying to make you be a way (that) you don’t want to be, it’s just kind of that anthem that we’ve got to be our own people. We just wanted to really come out and make a statement.”
As with any band, however, it usually takes much more than quality lyrics to draw the initial attention of new fans. 12 Stones has been able to reach an increasing number of people through many outlets, including their extensive touring schedule. Currently on the road with 3 Doors Down, Nickelback, and Puddle of Mudd, McCoy credits the band’s live shows for attracting a growing amount of supporters. “I think that if people don’t hear it, they can’t appreciate it,” he tells me. “I think the key to any band is to play as many shows in front of as many people as possible and spread the word that way.”
Although he enjoys performing at venues all across the country, McCoy cites the southern United States with having the best crowds. “(In the south) you can hear (the crowd) before you can see them,” he says. “They have that mentality of let’s just party and have a good time at all times.”
McCoy’s vocal collaboration with Amy Lee in the Evanescence smash, “Bring Me To Life” also drew attention to 12 Stones. When I ask McCoy if he plans to do any future collaborations with Evanescence, he replies, “That was a very last minute, fly by the seat of the pants collaboration. It would be cool. I love collabs. I love doing any kind of musical project I can. Anybody that’d be willing to come out and do some stuff, I’m always looking. But I think for the most part, we did that one thing, and it was very cool, and I’m very happy with it, but I’m not sure (we’ll do it) again.”
Given his working relationship with Evanescence, I ask McCoy if he was surprised by the sudden and much talked about departure of Evanescence band member, Ben Moody. “Not really,” he responds quite candidly. “It’s one of those things that musicians, no matter how well they play together, it’s still a person to person thing. If people aren’t getting along or that vibe isn’t there (it won’t work). That’s one of the hardest things to do with bands, is to keep them together. Everybody is so creative that a lot of times that creativity separates them a little bit.”
Hopefully 12 Stones will be able to channel their creativity in a positive manner, because as their latest single indicates, their artistic growth continues to blossom. Considering how talented they all are at such early ages, if they can stay together for years to come, they truly have the potential to become one of rock music’s most extraordinary bands.

Story from Allaccess.com
"Far Away," the lead track from the forthcoming sophomore CD by 12 Stones, is gaining adds at Alternative stations.
"The shape of that song was pretty much the way it sounds on the record from day one," singer Paul McCoy says. "It's about a friend of my sister's, who in high school was in a relationship that ended about three months in -- and how he killed himself in a very weak way."
The arrangement, he continues, "was a reflection of how I felt sad about what had happened. As I started working on the song it started to make me angry, that someone would take their life over something so trivial."
"Potter's Field," 12 Stones' followup to their 2002 self-titled debut, will arrive in stores on August 24th.
"This is a bigger record all the way around," McCoy states. "We wrote it the way we wanted it to be put out. A lot of the songs don't necessarily sound like 12 Stones songs; people might say, 'That's not the 12 Stones I know.' Maybe not, but it's the 12 Stones you're about to know."
"I'm extremely proud of it," adds drummer Aaron Gainer. "I feel like we've really come together musically, it's heavier in some senses, but also a bit more musical as well."
Here's the track listing for 12 Stones' sophomore release:
"Speak Your Mind"
"Last Song"
"Far Away"
"Shadows"
"Lifeless"
"Bitter" "Photograph"
"3 Leaf Loser"
"Stay"
"Waiting For Yesterday"
"In Closing"
As for the album's title, McCoy explains: "Typically a potter's field is the cemetery where they bury the Jane and John Does, the homeless people who have no family or relations or friends, who are really lost. And that's the way musicians very often are, working anonymously a lot of the time. We may have sold over 300,000 units but at the end of the day there are still a lot of people who have never heard of 12 Stones."
McCoy continues, "On the other hand we've received a lot of messages from people saying they heard a particular track of ours, and it helped to change their life. That's a great feeling, that we're able to reach out to all those John and Jane Does and possibly effect their lives."
Catch 12 Stones live in New Orleans, LA 8/28, West Valley City, UT 8/31, Bozeman, MT 9/1, Pot Falls, ID 9/3, Baton Rouge, LA 9/8, Houston, TX 9/9, Lake Buena Vista, FL 9/11, and Huntsville, AL 9/24. 12 Stones will appear with Nickelback and Puddle Of Mudd 8/31-9/3 and with Tantric 9/8-9, and 9/24
"It's really inspirational for us to walk onstage," guitarist Eric Weaver says. "When we're backstage, getting ourselves together, you can tell from the noise level when our banner goes up. It can get really crazy - but in a good way,"
"12 Stones to me is primarily a live experience," says Gainer. "The show. The music. The energy exchanged between us and the crowd, it's the whole reason we exist as a band. Anyone can make an album, but not everyone can reproduce it live. We wanted to capture that on the record, and we feel like we did."
"Touring is really all we've got," McCoy adds. "It's so great to see these people coming to our shows, and singing along with every song. That's what we love about what we do."
The band is posting audio messages at their site (http://www.12stones.com) with a new one just in August 4th from Aaron.

And Cfw, great article man...you always find the good stuff :) A lot of what Paul said was cool though...he wasn't trying to sound like the 1st record, and he's right, the new stuff doesn't sound like it. Potter's Field came out today, with a few spins of the album done, and I'm pretty impressed. Its not more of them same, you can tell its 12 Stones but its certainly not their self titled album all over again. I'll have more to say about this one once I've listened to it some more, so for now I'll just say its a really good pick up.

Review from Allmusic.com
Review by Johnny Loftus
With 12 Stones' sophomore effort, both the band and Wind-Up are aiming to capitalize on the recognition brought by Paul McCoy's memorable chorus cameo in the Evanescence monster hit "Bring Me to Life". To that end Potter's Field opts for a more powerful, guitar-heavy sound than the band's 2002 debut. Returning producer/mixer Dave Fortman (who also handled boards for Evanescence' Fallen) goes for maximum compression, which should ensure thick-stemmed rockers like "Speak Your Mind" and "Far Away" are palatable to loud rock audiences. The thing is, this far into the post-grunge game, the old Alice in Chains-via-Creed model of loud lead riffs balancing on introspective verses that then burst through the fog into elegiac or bittersweet choruses is getting pretty tiresome. And yet, the initial measures of Potter's Field's first five songs are completely interchangeable. Riff, rest, roar, repeat. Likewise, 12 Stones' lyrics - though they're probably more spiritual than, say, Nickelback's - aren't convincing enough to mark McCoy or his mates' particular mental anguish as connectable. "I walk to the edge again searching for the truth", he says in the Three Doors Down-ish "Stay"; "Last Song" is either an ode to a helpful girlfriend or a reference to the big JC. "I'm sorry for needing you to carry me". "Stay"'s plaintive lope is nice break from the album's chunky distortion-mongering, but overall Potter's Field is straightforward post-grunge formula.

I didn't want to make the far drive to Circuit City, so I bought mine from Sam Goody, but it was $9.99, so that's not much more than $7.99. I really like the album!! One of my favorite songs on the album other than "Photograph" is "Stay". I can't stop listening to that song!!!! But of course, I've always liked their slower songs like "The Way I Feel" and "Let Go".

Well...
Last night, b00bles, JimmyPage711 and I saw 12 Stones in Towson, MD. They were awesome. Better than the last time I saw them (with Ev, May 2003)...but only because their set was longer (performance wise they were phenomenal each time). Everyone needs to check these guys out, go see them live if possible, buy their CDs...they are seriously great. The 3 of us got to meet them then and talk a good bit, plus they signed our stuff. They are sooo nice, and very cool too. Gah I want to see them live again...right now...lol.

Mmm... I'm listening to their last album now... well some songs of it, I haven't finished it yet! Afterwards, in my winplayer it says...
REM-At my most beautiful, L. Kravitz- A million miles away, Robbie Williams - Someathing beautiful, 3 songs from Sting - I was brought to my senses, you still touch me and the hounds of winter, and a spanish song from a band called Guarana, noche en vela... I think the first sting song has a weird beggining, it's in a strange scale i think... but the second part its very relaxing and nice!
Anyway I wanted to post this in the old "what are you listening to" thread but it seems to be locked... but now that i'm here just to say that 12 stones sound very well and really like their last album...

It's not selling well? mmm... it's difficult to find the right formula i imagine... (wait a moment, what I'm talking about? do I have any idea of selling records? no! :D) maybe it's too similar all the way and not very original... but that doesn't necessarily make it a bad record, I prefer that the band feel the songs like their own rather than they sell many records... (Maybe Paul McCoy wouldn't agree with this point of view XD) Maybe it's not only in the music, maybe advertising makes a big deal as well... That's not the problem... the problem is that there's a enormous amount of awful records which seem to sell a lot... I remember I started listening to it because there was an e-team letter or something in an evanescence web, and I like it at least... maybe the next one sells better...
edit: forget what i said i've been listening to it today and it's great... :p

I do not think the problem with bands not having good songs, its more with the record company putting forth the money to get their music heard. 12 stones, val emmich, ect ect are all awesome bands. But, theres no record label support for them, I mean why wasnt 12 stones video seen on mtv or vh1 or even fuse. The record label needs to provide radio and all the great stuff with an incentive for them to play the song, they need to do more television appearances more ect. Thats the problem .

12 Stones rocks plain and simple. They are my favorite band, and they have been my fav for 3+ years. Unfortunately, Wind Up is more concerned with Alter Bridge, Seether, and Evanescence to give 12 Stones the promotion they deserve. I wouldn't be surprised if 12 Stones broke up out of necessity, as they are not doing well at all right now.

Yeah, but they don't like to be pigeonholed as a 'Christian' band. Besides, how can things be Christian? I thought only people can be Christians, not things. A band is a thing, so it therefore cannot be 'Christian' nor 'secular'.

I've only heard a few songs by 12 stones, but my favourite is Photograph. Love this song.
