Well opening day is upon us , and I thought I'de start Baseball thread..
So, whos your team , who looks good to you this season, ect..?
As you can tell , Im a Giants fan. Always have been. Always will.
Of course the Yankees have phenominal team, Boston is even better this year, I think the Giants dont have as good a team as the last 2 years , but I believe were still playoff bound.
So lets "bat" this topic around!

I'm going to the Redbirds (triple A memphis team), and I hope they win. As far as major leagues teams are concerned... GO CUBS.
Go Marlins! Defending Yankee Crushing World Champs at your service ;) Many teams have improved this year so I think some divisions may be even closer this year.

i think the the top 3 contenders for this year's championship are Cubs, Yankees, and Red Sox. The yankees have an AWESOME offensive presence but their pitching is worrisome. The Sox and Cubs however are more balanced. Both Sox and Cubs have an EXTREMELY talented pitching squad and good depth in the bullpen. When you have the likes of Wood, Prior, Maddux, and the supporting pitching staff coupled with their offense; and Martinez, Lowe, Schilling, and Wakefield, coupled with THEIR offense...then you know you're gonna have a good season.

I'm a Brewers fan, despite our recent sucktitude. Ned Yost is turning this team around with players who actually try and give 100% all the time, even if they aren't these big name or big talent guys.
Plus the Seligs are going to sell the team to someone so FINALLY we might be able to spend some money on free agents instead of having all our money go into Bud's pocket . And the whole Wendy Selig-Prieb is running the team not Bud thing is a farce. She's "running" it so he can ruin us AND the league at the same time, lol.
It was awesome to get a win on opening day yesterday :D

They kicked the crap out of Hampton. He didn't even last 3 innings.

Ichiro Suzuki broke an 84 year old record last night against the Texas Rangers.
He broke the single season hits record set by George Sisler in 1920. Sisler hit 257. Ichiro now has 259. On top of that, 222 of his hits are singles which is also a record.
That is an unbelieveable accomplishment.
He has a .373 batting average
I don't think anybody's come close to .400 since George Brett when he hit .390 a while ago.
He's the best leadoff hitter in baseball since Rickey Henderson.
However, if the Yanks continue to do well and Boston finishes their tromp I'd LOVE to see the Red Sox destroy the Yanks for the AL pennant which I think they finally could do.
Clemens (another ex-Yankee bastard) kicked the Braves asses up and down the field yesterday afternoon AFTER being sick! Hopefully Hampton will come through this afternoon.
Yeah , I'm a hometown fan.
I hope to see either:
Mariners - Astros for a offensive knockdown dragout with all of baseball's current batting badasses. Actually that combo would be explosive.
Yankees - Braves so that Atlanta can exact some well-deserved revenge.
Any other combo would be vastly one-sided. I dunno....

I'm a true Atlanta fan but the Braves were pathetic last night. I don't mean the pitching. Bobby Cox knew he was asking for it by constantly going to the bullpen after 4 or 5 innings game after game. They were bound to screw up. The hitting was embarrassing...except for Furcal,LaRoche and Estrada the whole team had 6 hits in 5 games. What the hell!!??! I mean after 13 damn years you'd THINK these guys would have a damn post season game of some kind.
Ughh...they need to lose their division next season. Maybe that'll wake them up. They are in this perpetual kickass regular season-shittyass post season cycle.

Tonight, the Boston Red Sox will once again face the New York Yankees.
The Yankees won the first 3 games. They won Game 3, 19-8.
However, the Red Sox have battled their way back in 2 extra inning thrillers and a win last night. They won 3 games in a row, 3 nights in a row and they're going for 4.
The Yankees were 3 outs away from sweeping the Red Sox and winning their 40th American League pennant.
Now the Yankees find themselves on the brink of elimination.
Can the Yankees beat the Red Sox and keep this so called curse alive?
Or will the Red Sox do the unthinkable?
I will be passing the Stadium tonight on the 4 train as the game goes on.
It's going to be one hell of a game.
There are some baseball analysts calling this the most important game in the history of baseball.
Now, I don't know about that, but I do know that there is a lot riding on this.
It all comes down to game 7. Again. In Yankee Stadium. Again.

That was one of the dumbest plays I have ever seen. Whether you're a Yankee or Sox fan, you have to admit that his play was foolish. Not only that, but I believe that it cost them the game last night.
They had one out with Jeter on base in the bottom of the eighth. Rather than Rodriguez take the sacrifice and put Jeter in scoring position with two outs, he commits interference and cost them a run and possibly 2. That's why I believe he cost them the game.

To all you in Boston, congrats, and your team has the support of all us at Target over here on Highway 100 in Minnesota.
Sorry, I just couldn't contain myself. Red Sox, you guys are truly amazing. I was biting my nails down to the last pitch. To think that they came from behind down three games to zero to win this against the Yankees in their own stadium. Without a shadow of a doubt this is the biggest upset in history, especially having come away with such a decisive victory. One step closer to lifting the curse. I just hope they're not up against the Astros, I'm obligated to root for Houston since my mom went to the same highschool as Roger Clemens. The Boston Red Sox were incredible. Damon was friggin huge: 3 for 6 with 2 Homers, one being a GRAND SLAM for a total of 6 RBIs. Lowe was ingenious with a 3.18 afterwards having only one walk.
Oh, I forgot to mention that this is only the third time in sports history in a 7- game playoff format that any sports team ever came back 0-3 to win a playoff series. It's the first time it's ever been done in modern baseball! And to top it off, it was done BY the BOSOX against the YANKEES! There is a God!
Btw, the other two times were in the NHL and no NBA team has ever done that.
My favorite episode of this ALCS though has to be ARod in Game 6 getting called for interference at 1st Base. What an overpaid jackass.
I disagree with The Dude, The Red Sox will easily handle either the Cards or the Astros. Curse,Shmurse! I do think the Astros would offer more of a challenge as they have better bats and a wizard of a closer.

Has anyone heard what Schill said about A-Rod on the Jim Rome show? He said something to the effect of "Derek Jeter would never do something that unprofessional" and "I don't have any respect for that guy at all".
I know I really sound like a sore winner here, but it was funny seeing the Yankee players and fans after the game, ESPECIALLY A-Rod. That could've been you, man. You could've come to the Sox. Actually... we don't want ya. Have fun golfing, Alex.

Oh, I totally agree with Schilling as well. It would be one thing if A-Rod did it as an instinctual thing and later admitted it was a stupid thing, but instead he was making excuses and denying that he did anything wrong.
That was such a pivotal moment in game 6, and from there, I just had a feeling that something was destined to go right for the Red Sox, for once. Last year hurt. For a couple days there it almost looked like this year wasn't as bad because we'd get swept and there wouldn't be that heartbreak element, but just that "maybe next year" feeling that has being going on for....... you know.
And I'll admit that I thought it was just setting up for more heartbreak... I mean, sure they'd win a game or two to make a series of it, but actually win four straight, coming back twice off Rivera, having a guy who was basically announced to be out for the playoffs pitch the game of his LIFE, and having Johnny Damon wake up out of his cave... errr... slump... ? No one truly expected this. We had hope, sure.
The job isn't done yet, by any means... but it feels damn good to be a Red Sox fan right now.

So If Houston can win tonight , it will be the Sox and the Stros. And that would be kinda funny considering those are Bush and Kerry's homestates. Betcha hadnt thought of that one....

I heard someone say that last night on TV (I don't remember who). I'm trying to avoid it as much as possible as is.
I do like the fact that the Boston stations we have (because our satellite provider kicks ass) have huge amounts of Sox coverage in relation to election coverage on their news shows.
(i don't see too many people feeling sorry for the Yanks, do you?)

I sure as hell don't feel sorry for the Yankees. I think they need to wake up and realize that you cant buy championships.
I truly believe if the Yankees organization didn't have all that money to pay egotistical, overrated ball players like A-Rod and Derek Jeter, they wouldn't have all of NeW York (excluding Mets fans of course) kissing their asses. They would just be your average baseball team.

OK, not a big update since I'm sure all the people reading/responding in this thread know about the Stros/Cards game...Cardinals won, 5-2. So, it's STL vs. BOS.
But last night I was watching Conan O'Brian. I forgot who was on but somebody brought up an interesting point: "As much as I want the Red Sox to win, they can't. It's like the Cubs, they just wouldn't be them if they won."
Which is true. Boston hasn't won since 1918 and they haven't won a pennant, besides this year, since 1986. Cubs, I forget the numbers but it's been a VERY long time (Billy Goat curse).
Would Boston and Chicago be the same if they actually won anything?

d00d, I never considered that question...and to think of it I realllllllyyy don't see a 5+ year dynasty over MLB emerging if the Bosox actually win the WS.
Unfortunately, that subject is were all baseball fans have to tip their hats to the Yankess...you just have to do that.

If Yadier Molina's sweeping of the bullpen wasn't a sign, I don't know what was.
Oh wait, there were only about 158159715 signs. And as much as I hate being superstitious... when there's 86 years of bad luck and curses going against you, sometimes you just need a whole bunch of things to align absolutely perfectly to reverse it all. And it happened.
And it feels absolutely incredible.
Congrats to the entire organization, and members of Red Sox Nation all over the world. This is so damn awesome.
(of course, most of the New England folk are partying their asses off - hopefully without any incidents, and then attempting to sleep for one hell of a Thursday morning water cooler day.)

This is one of the greatest moments in baseball history.
At one point they were down 3-0 in a series with a team that was considered the best team in baseball. They were down to their last strike and Mariano Rivera was on the mound.
Who could have come up with a better Hollywood ending than this?
Every single person on that team deserves credit. Bullpen, Bench, Starters, and Coaches.
I've already said it a few times, I don't believe in curses.
I believe in miracles and a miracle happened last night.
Congratulations to the BoSox. They deserved it.

Hard to believe there was a time 10 days or so... during game 5 I believe, after they had pulled off the heroics in game 4, where I saw it was 4-2 Yanks in the 8th, and figured that they wouldn't pull it out of the hat once again... so I took a nap, almost hoping and expecting that it would be over. Have us put out of our misery.
Woke up to find out they had won game 5. I didn't know what to think, but that changed everything. I figured there was a chance, albeit unlikely, that maybe, just MAYBE they could pull the unthinkable against the Yankees.
It's almost as if there was a moment where I was like "I'm sick and tired of this 'maybe next year' stuff. A year's waaaay too long to wait. I mean, it seems so long since Aaron fuckin Boone last year, I don't want the same thing again."
Next October is a long way away now... but at least it's gonna be a lot happier twelve months than most people could've ever expected.

When I was 9, the Sox had just got done blowing that WS to the Mets and I cried myself to sleep that night. For 18 years I've suffering through their futility and hearing the constant jeers from the pompous Yankee fans. The sad thing is I don't really have that much to complain about because some Sox fans have lived their whole natural lives, have died, and not seen the Sox win it all.
Tears started flowing again but obviously these were of the joyful variety. My eyes didn't water when the final out was made. I had too many people at work to brag to. It started after I watched the celebration and the highlights on Sportcenter. The Nike Ad with the brothers watching the games throughout their lives as the years go by. That was the tearjerker. All us Sox fans have been waiting all our lives. Finally, the time is ours.

I just want to say last night was the first time I've watched a baseball game in along time.
Anyways, it was good, but I was hoping for it to be a closer game. Well, 3-0 is kinda close, but I was hoping it would have went into extra innings, and the Sox would have won it on a homerun by Damon. It was awesome to see the Sox win the World Series for the first time in 86 years, so congrats to them. Even more amazing was that they were down 3-0 to the Yankees last round, and came back to win 8 in a row. They impressed me definately.

I'm guessing that the reason why they decided to hold it on Saturday rather than Friday is exactly because of that. Kids want to skip school to go to it. I remember when the Pats won the Superbowl (not last year, the time before that), there weren't a lot of kids at my school because they were all at the parade.
