Ok y'all, I did a search, and nothing since my last nascar post last august about nascar. so here we go.
With the Daytona 500 on Feb 15, the countdown has begun! A new points system is in consideration(which I dont like), and some new rule changes.
What are y'alls predictions about the upcoming season? the new Cup Champion? gonna take a while to get used to Nextel Cup. Busch Champion? Truck Champion?
man I can't wait for the season to start.
my quick picks
Cup Champion- Harvick
Busch Champion- Kyle Busch
Truck Champion- Bobby Hamilaton

My mom is like a Jeff Gordon freak. SO I really just hope he doesn't win.. maahahaha so that way.. I don't know. We went to the daytona 500 a couple years back. Sun Burn from hell was about all that entertained me. mmm... and the nachos.

I don't watch Nascar. The crashes are exciting but seeing a car go 500 times around a circle is boring to me. But I do think Dale Earndhart JR. is cute ;)

mmm yup, haven't been on here much because of school and such, so i just saw this thread. both sides of my family are big NASCAR fans. so i grew up on it. i've been to maybe 5 races. my favorite driver (as with my whole family) was Dale Earnhardt, so it's not quite as exciting to watch now that he's gone. but i did hear about the new points system. actually i happened by it on chance and did an essay on it for school before the official proposition even came out. i think it's an aweful idea because a) why would the drivers who weren't competing for the championship but their asses in the last 10 races if they didn't count? b) why would the fans whose favorite drivers weren't in the top 10 drivers care about the races? c) it's just a dumb idea in general. it doesn't solve the problem but rather makes a mess out of the system. what they needed to do was make winning a race worth more points and make the gap between first and second place much greater. period. and that's my 2 cents. and btw, dale jr is very good looking.

I'm a Rusty Wallace fan for about 4 years or so, the only problem here in Portugal is that we don't have the live events, only when Eurosport decides to show some moments of the races is when I get some news from the season races.
The first thing that cought my atention was the black car he was driving with the number 2, nowadays blue but don't really know why I became his fan... maybe his driving I guess. I know that he isn't one of the top racing drivers but I hope he will make a regular season and if he wins some races I'll be happy. :)

yes the Daytona 500 was great as always, though the ending was a little boring, but congrats to Dale Jr. Harvick, my driver, finishes 4th, and finally the season is underway.

Boring? Dale Jr and Tony Stewart duking it out in the last 15 laps wasn't enough for you?
Well, I personally have always been a Jeff Gordon fan (commence name calling now), but I have become more of a fan in favor of Dale Jr these past few seasons, so good for him for winning the 500.

it was only 3 lead lap cars, 1 lap car in the first pack. Stewart couldn't close up on Jr. and Wimmer was to loose and Busch backed off. the second pack had 10 cars lined up and couldn't make up any of the 8 second gap, main reason I found it boring because my driver was leadin the second pack, now if anyone watched the Busch one today(postponed from sat due to rain) thats how it should be as a finish, and Jr. won yet again.

Just back from Vegas and let me tell you, that was one of the best races I have seen there, besides the first one. It was soooooooo hot outside. Last year was cold with t-storm snow flurrys. This year went thru 2 bottles of SPF 40 and at least 2 gallons of water and beer. Anyone going to the Fontana races this year?

I don't follow NASCAR much, but how is Dale Jarrett doing this year? I haven't really watched "racin" since Harry Gant retired, but I like Dale Jarrett because he's a GAMECOCK!

Last year was a trainwreck for the 88, he's doing a little better this year. His teammate Elliott Sadler is doing better than the 88. I hope he does well, GO FORD!

Amazing though how top 2 places at Rockingham were the same at Vegas. for the non nascar fans, Rockingham=1 mile tear up tires and Vegas=1.5 miles, handling type track. Kahne is really surprising me so far. And kenseth(not really though people forget before his 1 win and the championship last year he won season high 5 races year before)

Next week will be a true test at Hotlanta. Fast track, soft tires should be fun!
Will team Gibbs hold true and dominate? This is Bobby's best track and Tony's been running pretty good. Harvick will be out for blood. That running out of gas stuff reminds me of his rookie year. Kasey needs to get aggressive and he might just win this year (Texas). I was shocked to see all the Dodge engine problems in Vegas. Maybe they were pulling to much gear.
This year is shaping up to be a good one. Any EV boarders going to any races this year?

Not going to any, but I am sure to get caught up in the traffic at Darlington. And I will probably work the golf tournament they have for the race in Darlington which they hold at the golf course I work at.

Are there any nice hotels close to the track. Need to find one soon for the Southern 500? Is the GT open to the public?

There are some very nice hotels in near by Florence, which is about a 10 minute drive with no traffic. You would proably want to book early though. I wouldn't risk finding one in Darlington though, for they are all very gross looking at least from the exterior. So, try to find one in Florence. It is right where I-95 and I-20 meet so there are a lot of hotels right there on the interstate. The tournament is open to the public. Usually a good time to be had by all there. Although the greens are usually in bad shape by that time of year because that is when they go through the fall transition.

Who all watched todays race? Great race but i'm EXTREMELY PISSED at Nascar's decision to throw the caution flag and take the final 4 LAPS run under caution. I am not bashing on Gordon and no i'm not one of those mad junior fans who said he was in front(i'm a harvick fan), but they DIDN'T clean up anything in the 4 laps. Vickers spun, and kept going hit NOTHING and they threw the caution. My opinion they threw an unneeded caution, thats why you saw all those beer cans from the stands being thrown on the track. NASCAR made a PATHETIC DECISION.
Before this though, the racing was incredible, best race we've had all year before that last situation.

Yeah, definitely would have been better if it was finished under green. I'll take it because I am a Gordon fan but the race was great all around except for the end under caution. What I don't get is Tony Stewart and his starting wrecks for what seems like the fourth week in a row. I'm glad he got spun and finished back in 22nd but NASCAR has got to keep an eye on him before he seriously hurts someone with his over-aggression.

I dunno i think there was something Fishy about it. But hey the fans showed Nascar with their Booing and the throwing of beer cans lol. i heard that on the Nascar radio station that they said the Dale was in the lead and then the caution went out. The caution didnt go out until the bottom of the track by that time Dale had pulled out in front of Gordon. But what can you do. I can kinda see why they called it bc it would take atleast a lap to get up to speed and then a huge crash might have happened. I think it sux.

At least the pit crew is following Tony Stewart's example in thuggery. NASCAR has got to start sitting people or its going to turn into hockey on asphalt.

is it me, or are the really ROWDY this season. In a way i am kinda glad they are taking it out outside the car. Last thing you need is a grudge on a track. I dunno what they need to do. But it has to be getting ratings. Everyone loves to see a good fight.
Tony did get into the back of Kayne so... How do we not know Tony didnt dileberatly (sp?) knock into him and crash him. Like i said before, it seems to be fishy what going on!

well then where are all yall Nascar fans at? Anyone watch the race and hear about Dale Jr? I know rules are rules but do you agree with what happened. I can believe that Nascar fined him but i can't believe they took 25 points away. That now puts him in second. i understand that he should not have said those itty bitty bad words. But can you blame him? This is his 5th win at talledaga...

I'm not a big NASCAR fan like many people but I follow it enough.
I think a fine would have been fair. Even if it was a BIG fine, it wouldn't have been that bad. Now becuase of this stupid penalty, there's a realistic chance that he could lose out on the championship because of something that happened outside the race. Something that was a complete slip of the tongue.
Seems crazy to me.

I'm a Gordon fan, so this doesn't break my heart to see Junior get the points taken away but it doesn't make it right. If you want to fine him, go ahead but don't take away points which would just cause dispute if Dale lost the Cup by less than 25 points.
