Voice of the Steeler fan checking in:
Look out New England, this is OUR year. Big Ben and the new Steel Curtain WILL lead Pittsburgh to Super Bowl Glory. Bettis will rush for over 1,000 yards, Ward will catch for over 1,000 yards, and Roethlisberger will be the league and Super Bowl MVP.
Of course I can't ask for a repeat of last years 15-1 record, but they will win the division (let's say they finish 13-3) and roll through the AFC playoffs to the Super Bowl, where they will dismantle Atlanta.

Dude! I've been a Steeler fan since the ugly days of Mark Malone and Todd Blackledge at QB! I suffered through the Bubby Brister era, and Merril Hoge was my football hero growing up as a kid. I remeber when Louis Lipps and Rod Woodson were the team's best players. I remember wanting to eprsonally hang Neil O' Donnell for giving the Super Bowl away to Dallas and making Larry Brown look like a competent NFL DB.
So yeah, I've suffered long enough, it's time to bring the title back to Steeltown.

Even though I live in Michigan, I'm a die-hard Packers fan (the U.P. is more like a part of Wisconsin anyway :p ), and I must say I am extremely dissapointed with the team's performance so far. 0-3? Come on guys, get it the hell together here! If we win the next 13 games though, we have a chance at the NFC North! ;)
I was at the Packers/Browns game, and I truely believed they could come back and win. Then they didn't kick the on-side w/ 3 minutes left after they scored! If they had done that, the outcome of the game could've been different! Why they didn't do that I'll never understand.
So that's my two cents. And, even though they are completely sucking, I still say GO PACK GO!

I decided to change the title of this thread because there was some college football this week that could only be considered to be classic.
The first and foremost is obviously USC vs. Notre Dame in what many are calling one of the greatest games of the last quarter century.
Quinn, the ND quarterback, ran the ball in for a touchdown with 2 minutes to go.
The USC Trojans had a winning streak spanning 3 years on the line and their backs against the wall.
Matt Leinart stood in the face of adversity and put together the drive of his collegiate career and the drive that at this point, he'll always be remembered for.
Notre Dame thought they'd won the game when Leinart was hit short of the goal line, but the ball was hit out of bounds and they were given 7 seconds.
It was there that Leinart faked a spike and punched it into the endzone with three seconds on the clock. The Trojans roll on.
The other was Penn State and Michigan.
Penn State, a revitalized team, worked their way to become the #8 team in the country after a couple of horrendous seasons.
Michigan was beating Penn State, when the Penn State quarterback sneaked one in with less than a minute to go.
It looked like Penn State was going to continue their undefeated season, but Michigan got good field position and with one second remaining on the clock Michigan scored a touchdown to win 27-25.
Holy hell, what a great weekend of football.

Well I've pretty much giving up on the Packers going to the playoff now. The last second lost yesterday wasn't fun and now they lost Green for the rest of the season. Ferguson is also out for a month. They'll be using a third string RB, and missing 2 top receivers. To make it worse they face Cincinati, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Minnesota and Philadelphia in the next 5 weeks. I doubt even think they will finish with a winning record :(

If they do, they'll be playing in Indianapolis, so you gotta give the Colts the edge if that happens. They showed how much more of a dominant team they are than the Pats tonight. Now that they have a defense, I dont see many teams that they can't beat.

No foul play is suspected, but a cause of death won't be announced pending an autopsy, said Vida Morgan, a secretary in the Hillsborough County sheriff's office.

What an amazing College Football Bowl Season.
Great finish to an amazing year.
In the Orange Bowl, you had a triple overtime thriller between Penn State and Florida State and tonight was the biggest game of the year between the #1 USC Trojans and #2 Texas Longhorns.
Amazing performance tonight by Vince Young.
Vince Young went 30 of 40 for 267 yards and rushed for 200 yards for three touchdowns including the winning touchdown and subsequent 2 point conversion with only 19 seconds left in the game. He literally carried the team on his shoulders. It was a back and forth struggle all the way.
Gotta give it up though for LenDale White too. 20 rushes for 123 yards and three touchdowns and I think that if they won the game, he'd have officially been the MVP. With all the hype that Reggie Bush has, LenDale has more touchdowns than Bush has had this season and aside from that LenDale's only a junior. Next year, you know he's going to be considered a Heisman candidate, though he should have been given consideration here too.
Both of these games are going to be in consideration for the top game of 2006. You couldn't ask for a better game than tonight's USC-Texas game.
Texas won their 20th consecutive game, breaking USC's 34 game winning streak.

Young... WOW! He is one hell of a quarterback. Ive never seen a quarterback take off running with the ball as much as he did. I was a little skeptical in the beginning. Texas just couldn't keep the ball. Its amazing how fast they move when they fumbled to get teh ball back. It was an amazing game

How AMAZING was Brady's pass that hit the umpire? That was hilarious. I'm glad the guy wasn't hurt though (that's why I joke of it now). So far, this has been an interesting game- Patriots vs. Jaguars at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts. Pats are leading seven nothing at the moment.

I went crazy when washington caught that interception. It was great. But i do wish simms would of gotten sacked one good time after he rushed the ball and made a hand motion for one of the skins to tackle him. :D

I think they'll be facing a different Panther team than they did in the regular season. They're playing much better. And considering they just shutout a very potent offense in the Giants, that can't bode well for the Bears.

Yes, but Carolina has also managed to be horribly inconsistent all season.:( So it really depends on whether Carolina, especially their defense, comes out and plays like they did against the Giants, or whether they play the way they did against Dallas near the end of the regular season. Either way, this game is not going to be a very high scoring affair.

Even though Reggie Bush has been the obvious choice for #1, with Vince Young and LenDale White apparently headed for the draft, who do you think the Texans will actually pick? According to ESPN, there's been increasing support for Vince Young. He's from Texas and would serve as a backup to David Carr. And then you have LenDale White, the short yardage back for Reggie Bush. White actually had more touchdowns than Bush this season. It looks like #1 is going to be a lot harder than what it was before.
And remember, you still have Matt Leinart.

I'm a little brokenhearted that the Pats lost last night. *sheds a tear* They made way too many mistakes last night, and Denver was able to capitalize on all of them. I give 'em credit for that... though this afternoon on CBS' NFL Today, the commentators interviewed one of the Broncos players, and he acted a little arrogant when he talked about how happy he was that the Pats couldn't repeat in the SB this year. I can't stand it when people are cocky.
So now I'm rooting for Seattle or Carolina, whoever makes it to the SB out of the two teams.

I can see it happening, but the sucky part for the Steelers is that they're not even the favorites after beating the team picked to be the favorite this entire season.
I guess I'll make my picks.
Pit/Den should be close, but my money is on Pittsburgh to win it in the last quarter.

I agree with your picks 100%. I think the Steelers actually play better as the road dog this year. I dont' see Denver being able to run for 200 yards against them, and if it's up to Jake Plummer to win it for the Broncos, they can't like their chances too much.
Carolina, even without Foster, I think is just too complete a team for Seattle. I don't know if they have the ability to contain Steve Smith either. Unless Carolina comes out flat like they did over the course of the regular season a few times, I don't see them losing to the Seahawks. The Panthers are really the only team from the NFC that has a balanced enough game to beat either AFC team in the Super Bowl.
Pittsburgh-Carolina would be a Super Bowl for the ages IMO.

My reasonings are that Carolina beat the Eagles in the '03 playoffs (yes I hold grudges lol) and Denver SMOKED the reigning bitches *ahem* champs... I'm sorry but Brady is a little bitch and it was like Christmas all over again watching the Pats get their asses handed to them.
So I see Denver reigning over Pittsburgh by at least 7, and Seattle reigning over Carolina by 3.
And seeing as how I'm not a huge fan of either Denver or Seattle, my Super Bowl drinking game will probably just be taking a shot when anyone scores instead of my team. Man I'm gonna be wasted. SCORE!

Seattle Seahawks vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
Jerome Bettis, likely playing his final game in the most appropriate way.
Matt Hasselbeck and Shaun Alexander have emerged after the NFC Championship as superstars.

I really don't see how Seattle can beat the Stealers defense right now. Unless Alexander manages to slip out of a few tackles, he won't be running really far. Congratulations to the Pittsburgh Steelers for winning Super Bowl XL!
You couldn't have asked for a better ending to a season than this one.
The Steelers late in the season, were counted out as a playoff team two months ago after a 7-5 record and they swept out the season.
Jerome Bettis, hero of the Steelers for the past decade, literally almost ended his career two weeks ago with a fumble that could have swept the momentum to the juggernauts of the regular season, the Indianapolis Colts.
Ben Roethlisberger made the play that he'll be remembered for with a shoestring tackle that saved the game, their season, and a shot at the Super Bowl.
And even a slow start couldn't stop the Steelers from doing what nobody, aside from maybe SOME Steeler fans believed in. And that was winning the Super Bowl.
Jerome Bettis, in his final season, in his final game, in his hometown, on the Super Bowl, goes down in glory and the history books. In five years, The Bus will likely make a new home in Canton, Ohio.
Roethlisberger becomes the youngest quarterback to ever win the Super Bowl, and he did it in only his second season.
More credit to someone who finally deserved it...Bill Cowher. Years of frustration even in contention, could have done Bill Cowher's career in. Through O'Donnell, Stewart, Maddox, and even in Roethlisberger's rookie season, people wondered if he'd ever win a Super Bowl in the black and gold. He proved doubters wrong tonight.
Also, congratulations to the Seattle Seahawks. They gave everything they had and in the end, it was just not to be. But based on how they've played this entire season, I have a feeling that you'll be hearing the Seahawks as contenders for years to come and they may be back next year as favorites to win it this time.
Credit to Matt Hasselbeck who was rather aggressive all game long. He didn't lose confidence in his wide receivers or in himself even after turning the ball over. He's really become one of the premier quarterbacks in the league after this season.
More great news coming out of this was that the Saints will march back into New Orleans on September 24th. Granted, nothing is going to replace what's already happened there, but this marks a step in the right direction.

I totally agree. It wasn't much of a game to watch... I had it recorded for me when I got home (because I suck and had to work), but I was getting sort of frustrated with it. Seattle was doing fine in the first quarter, but shortly thereafter... well yeah. Pittsburgh wasn't even that interesting either...
At the end I felt like there were so many times that I could've just got up and stopped watching at any point in the game and I would've missed nothing. I had hoped that it was going to get better... shame. Didn't enjoy the Stones either. The halftime show is starting to bite now. I think it'd be nice for them to just do away with the dancing and the fancy, and just do interviews and shit during halftime.
I spend halftime in the toilet anyhow. ::Sighs:: I was disappointed, but it wasn't bad. Just a bit boring.
End.

For those still cryin gabout the officiating costing Seattle the game...
Great article on ESPN.com
With Ben being only 23 and the nucleus of this team having it's best years ahead of it, I think we just might've witnessed the beginning of the next dynasty. Although they *just* played well enough to win on Sunday.

My teacher had a hangover. It was very amusing. It was late in the day and she was recovering from it, but she sat in her chair by the desk like the entire class. Lol, she's was like... "Mmmm.... you guys can do the work, on... the... board?" Hahhahaahhahahaha. It's so unlike her. Hahahhaahha.
Go Steelers! Congrats!

Well now all we have left is the Pro Bowl. Can't wait to see the Bears up on Defence for that game. :)
Then only thing left is Arena league. I actually caught a game of Chicago and Columbus. The game was actually really cool. I'm gonna have to see about getting to a game sometime soon. :)

I agree, it was a boring Super Bowl this year. Football games usually grab hold of my attention, but this one didn't.
Well, the good thing about the Steelers winning the Super Bowl is that my mom won the top prize in my uncle's playoff pool. :D So of course, I'm happy for her.

Arena football rocks. I always root for the Philadelphia Soul... 'cause Jon Bon Jovi owns their team. They played a good game last weekend, too. ;)
