The man... the legend... teh David Hodges.
It's high time he had an official thread in here.
Most people know how he fits into the history of Evanescence.
But he is also an amazing solo artist! I adore his solo album from 2000 and the work he's done on the Summit Church compilations. Now we're just waiting for his new solo album to arrive in the next few months. With the experience he gained while with Ev, I know his new album will blow the old one out of the water.
The first and only David Hodges fan site:
http://www.davidhodges.info/
Which is part of Ev is not a christian band.com (http://www.notachristianband.com/)
On there is a list of everything he's done solo thus far and complete lyrics transcribed by myself & posi. :)

Kinda makes me laugh seeing notachristianband.com, then seeing David. Seeing as the music he rights is worship and there is no getting around that one.

I just love the songs with David in it, right now, "Before the dawn" is my favourite Ev song with David in it.

Before anyone gets angry, I'd just like to clairfy, I have nothing against him, or any of his songwriting or anything, I just don't care for his voice.

Also I was wondering, is he at age with Ben and Amy, or how old is he?
"Anywhere" is a very beautiful song I think, his voice fits good.

Excellent job spreading the DHlove! I've only burned a CD for one person at my church. But I try and pimp it to all my online friends (non-Evboard) too.
I was wanting to burn one for myself but now there's more than a CD's worth so I dunno what to do. lol

I'm stoked for his REAL album to come out. No more mp3s. I can't wait for a real CD. Thanks to Nate for introducing me to David. Cuz ever since I was nearly falling asleep at the wheel from listening to his music, I've been in LOOOVE :P it's good stuff. I'm not into the whole christian thing right now, but its bearable and the piano is just mmmmm yummy.
Is that Amy that harmonizes with him on some of his songs from Musical Demonstrations (im not just talking about Fall Into Me- I hear a female on a lot of songs). Cool beans! Go David! :D

David played the piano for Origin and Fallen. Amy from what I understand did piano on some of their earliest songs from the Whisper/Sound Asleep EP. I'm guessing David did the piano for Breathe and Fall Into You. As for the Summit Church... :?:

I attend the Summit Church (in North Little Rock, Arkansas) and had the privilege of seeing "The Light" which was an original Christmas production by the music ministry at the church. David wrote most of the songs in it (and was in the vocals), including a beautiful piece called "Lost in December". The "soundtrack" CD is available for $6 from the Summit--just give them a holler if you want it. I know quantities are limited so call soon (501-758-4822).

Breathe is amazing. I still say David and Amy blend perfectly! However, the weird thing is Amy sings the harmony exactly the way I've always imagined it in my head! The extra chord progression tacked on at the end was also very nice.

I think you can still buy "The Genesis Project" from the Church's Merch page.
buy The Genesis Project (http://www.summitworship.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=28)
But basically all his stuff is out of print! You can't buy it in any store, not even Christian Bookstores. Best you can do is download the MP3s and burn em.
Once he has the "Trading Yesterday" CD complete, he'll shop it around to label's, see if he gets any bites. It may very well just end up being an indie release like the others. But it would be nice if he got some distribution. Time will tell.

I guess I am the only one. Where Will You Go is one of my favorites on Origin despite his annoying "Yeah yeahs" but I'm not the biggest fan of Anywhere. Before anyone gets angry, I'd just like to clairfy, I have nothing against him, or any of his songwriting or anything, I just don't care for his voice.
I dont really care for his voie on there either I like the Evanescence Ep on bette without him on it...Not that i have anything agianst him i just dont like his singing

Here's a pic that isn't on the David site. I think you should add it :D http://img3.photobucket.com/albums/v32/mylastbreathuk/Other%20stuff/bda.jpg

Shame there's no "official" record of David, he's such a great singer (even I'm not so into the christian stuff).
Hm, how does David earn his money, I was thinking he's a Fulltime-Singer :o
btw, I love the last posted pic, it's one of my fave Evanescence - Pix in general. Would be great if those three guys will sit one day again together to work on new the "real" Evanescence - Stuff *sigh*

Much of David's earlier work is not in print and is no longer available to the public. I do not know the extent to which Musical Demonstrations Pt. 1 was released, but it is impossible to find.
David performed extensively on the Summit Worship album put out by the Summit Church in Little Rock. Distribution of that album was apparently limited. I contacted the Summit Church recently to see if any copies were available, and I was informed that there were no copies left and that a decision had been made some time ago not to produce any more copies of that album because they were not satisfied with the quality of the recording.
David has also recorded on two other albums put out by the Summit Church -- The Genesis Project was one album, and The Light was the other. My recent correspondence with the Summit Church indicated that copies of those recordings might be available if you contact Summit Church. You may be able to contact the Summit Church from the link at the notachristianband.com website.
Of course, as recently reported by BlackVulture, David is due to complete a project very soon under the band name Trading Yesterday. Hopefully, it will be distributed widely and soon. I hope that David's fame as being part of the grammy award for best new artist will expedite the production and distribution of the Trading Yesterday album.

Sorry, but I forgot to mention that the link at notachristianband.com under the David Hodges page merely takes you to the Summit Church home page. They do not have a direct email link on their site, but under the page for leadership they do post some email addresses and phone numbers. I completely agree :) David does deserve his own thread. :)
I have only had the privelage of hearing a handful of his songs, but I must say that Breathe is my favorite. Coming from someone who is not Christian, for this song to touch me in any way emotionally is remarkable.
Even though the song is clearly about God, I can still connect with his emotions. He is a very intense vocalist with his emotions. I really admire that.

David and his band "Trading Yesterday" was on our local good morning show today. I think the bass players name was Steven and the percussionist was Mark (didn't catch the last names). They sang two songs. I didn't get the title of the first one, but it had the line "her name is always Elizabeth". The second one was titled "What I'm dreaming Of". He described their music as "coldplay gets run over by John Mayer". They are looking to get signed and go on tour. They are having a cd release party this Saturday night (May 15th) at Summit Church in North Little Rock at 7 p.m. Just thought some of you might like to know. :)

Evanescence Member Launches Trading Yesterday
Saturday May 15, 2004 11:11pm Posted By: Angela Rachels
Little Rock, AR - More than 500 Arkansans gather at the Summitt church to hear the music of Trading Yesterday.
That's the name of a local pop group including David Hodges, a former band member of Little Rock's Evanescence. Hodges used to play keyboard and perform back up vocals for the rock band- he also shares two Grammy's with Evanescence.
Saturday night, Hodges along with friends Mark Colbert and Steven McMorran debuted songs from their new album. It's set to hit stores in June.
The band says their lyrics are meant to tell a story to the audience. It's a story they hope those listening appreciate.
(Hodges)"Tonight is an opportunity to hear songs that we have been working on for a whole year."
The group says tonight is about the music, but the goal is possibly moving to Los Angeles to do more work on their album in a studio.

Wow, thanks for that pic BV, DAVID IS SO CUTE!!! Tee hee it looks like he's looking to heaven. BV, are you obsessed with DH? That sounds kinda rude but I've just come from the Obessions thread in C.O.T. I rekon it'd be really really funny if he did get signed to Wind-Up but I don't think he will. It'd be a bit weird, esp. if somehow Ben, Ev and him were miraciously all in one place at one time.
C.O.T==I heard a comment on the radio a couple of weeks ago, where the dj was dissing WU, Creed and Ev about 'having christian music and being and bringing out Christian bands'. I felt like calling them up and abusing them about how Ev isn't a christian band but I thought it'd only encourage them.

Does anyone know if David and Ben's track Only Human, Only God is purely instrumental or does it have vocals?
I hope this track finds its way to Wind-ups The Passion of the Christ: Songs of Inspiration soundtrack.

I still need to post my pics of the last big trading yesterday concert. Oh and this might just be a rumor, but ive read on several of kelly's fansites that she is dating "some guy named david hodges".. She took him as her date to the Princess Diaries 2 premiere. There are like 2 pics of them together. I knew they'd been hanging out a lot but I had no idea they might be dating! Cute couple if its true!

There is a new Q&A with David on the Trading Yesterday website.
Q&A WITH TRADING YESTERDAY'S DAVID HODGES
What are the names of each of the Trading Yesterday band members and what instrument does each of them play?
mark colbert (drums)
steven mcmorran (bass, bgv's)
david hodges (vocals, guitars, pianos)
How did Trading Yesterday form to be a band?
mark and i met through mutual friends in 2001. he was moving to la and looking for a gig. at the time, evanescence didn't have a drummer, and ben and i were talking about him playing with us. mark's la trip fell through and we reconnected a year and a half later in little rock right after i finished recording "fallen" with ben and amy. he and i clicked instantly and started working on some projects together. we had a great musical chemistry and really understood each other in the studio. in may of 2003 over dinner at ihop, mark and i decided to start trading yesterday (which at the time meant buying a protools rig, getting an apartment together and beginning to record the music that was naturally flowing through our lives). we had no idea where God would take it, but we were willing to pour everything we had into it. as the months wore on, trading yesterday started to take a more definite shape, and a mutual friend of ours (steven) seamlessly fit in place with the vision (both musically and spiritually) of the band.
What previous music experience does each Trading Yesterday member have?
mark (the old one), spent five years in the nineties playing drums in a christian indie band called "nickel and dime". i was a member of evanescence (writing, producing, and playing pianos, keys, and strings) from the winter of 1999 until the winter of 2002. steven, mark, and i have grown up playing in worship bands at church and college, so we are very used to adapting with each other and with the environment of the music. i think one of the reasons we mesh well together is because the song is more important than any of us. every part should promote the song, not the player.
Who are the musical influences of the band?
the beatles, sting, u2, toad the wet sprocket, coldplay, nichole nordeman (her lyrics will change you)
How does the writing and recording process work for the band? Who is going to produce the album?
when we made "the beauty & the tragedy", i produced and mark mixed the project, and both happened simultaneously as we went along. the songs we started the project with were more of a springboard for the creative process because most of the songs that ended up on the record were written during the months of recording. typically, i would write the music and melody and the lyrics would be collectively written by whoever happened to be walking through life with us at the time. that's why lyric writing credits are from steven, myself, and friends of ours. especially when it comes to capturing the concept of the song with words, i really feel that two (or more) heads are better than one.
Where is the band recording their album? Can you talk about the differences between the new album you're recording for Epic Records and the debut album Trading Yesterday self-released?
we are recording in la in october and november with dave fortman (the producer for the evanescence record). we feel like he will be perfect for this project. we had limited funds and resources on the self-released albums, so it was more ideas than really what we wanted the songs to sound like. this time around, we are able to go the distance with our imagination for each track. there will also be some new songs on this release that we are very excited about. i love the evolution process of our music.
Do you want to mention any specific songs that will be on the album and what they mean to you?
the writing process for this record came very organically; no deadlines or anticipation built by labels and fans because there weren't any. trading yesterday started over a dinner and built itself in an apartment studio over hours and months of writing, forming songs and living life into something that we never could have planned or mapped out. trading yesterday exists because it had to exist - a musical representation of our lives, of our experience to now. whether the world hears these songs, or they stay in that apartment; the cathartic purpose of the band is found in the project simply being completed. if others connect to where we are and (more importantly) where we're going, then that is just added blessing to the journey. because this record is our personal journal on disc, each piece of it connects to us. songs like "one day", "love song requiem", and "she is the sunlight" are about her (or should i say about the many hers); "revolution", "world on fire", and "what i'm dreaming of" are reminders of who we are made to be; but the song that seems to sums up the record the most is "the beauty and the tragedy" - for i am finding out that love will kill and save me - that line probably captures our year the best.

He's always done producing for punk/hard rock/heavy metal bands.
This entire project should be interesting. I'm going to guess that the album will come out between February and April.

I absolutely love Trading Yesterday, they are definitely one of my favorite bands ever. I just heard The Beauty and The Tradgedy, and I honestly love every song. My favorites are probably Elizabeth, What I'm Dreaming Of, Shattered and Love Song Requiem.
I bought Kelly's CD as well and all I have to say is WOW. The whole thing is phenomenal, but Because of You and Addicted are especially amazing (and when you consider she wrote BOY at 16... it blows you away). Ben and David did an awesome job writing the music and producing the song. Ben, David and Mark (from Trading Yesterday) also play on those two songs, I'd say it's a must have for any fan. David plays the piano masterfully... I love it!
